The Contact Roles feature is what you will notice that continues to pop up as you have been working in many Salesforce projects in the past months. Well, such is for two reasons actually. One because they are actually identified as being very useful when it comes to defining the part that a contact is playing in a certain account, case, opportunity and others. Also, compared to various features in the Salesforce, you should know that the Contact Roles actually have a lot of limitations about their customization.
There are actually pros and cons to such Contact Role feature but you should know more about what key role this plays to any business process in the Salesforce. It is a great thing if you know why you have to use the Contact Roles. Well, you have to understand that not only are the Contact Roles really easy to setup and also use but the logic behind using them is also quite straightforward. Two of the main reasons why you have to use the Contact Roles is so that you can define such role the contact plays in a certain opportunity or account like being an influencer, decision maker and several others.
You may also be able to add a contact to various accounts or opportunities just once. Moreover, you can set a contact as the primary contact. This is quite useful when you have various contact which are related to one opportunity but just a single contact should get a communication about the deal.
In addition to this, you also have such option of customizing the role picklist through adding the custom roles for the selection. When it comes to the customization, however, you must know of the limitations about the Contact Roles.
Actually, you may have such option of putting new custom roles to the Contact Role list and it is really unfortunate that you cannot customize the Contact Roles related list layout so that you can add or remove standard fields. Such is adequate requirement for many businesses that you have encountered which use the feature. What you see is simply what you get.
The primary option on the case Contact role is not available too since this defaults the primary contact since this contact is being listed in the contact name in such case detail section. But, there is nothing to be anxious about. Admins are not really interested in such limitations and they see these as challenges. Through creating a custom object, you won’t just be able to add such custom fields but you can also customize such related list layout in order to fit the business requirements. What you just need to do is to remember to name such custom object being something different to be able to avoid getting confused.
