Types of Specialty Vehicle Commercial Auto and Truck Insurance Policies

When you’re dealing with commercial auto and truck insurance policies, you may think that most vehicles simply fit into a broad umbrella classification. For instance, if you’re operating any kind of truck, then you need commercial truck insurance, and it’s that simple and straightforward. Except that’s not really the case. Here, we’ll go over some of the very specific types of commercial vehicle insurance policies which are out there.

All types of specialty vehicles and trucks have their own types of insurance policies. This makes sense, as different vehicles are used in different ways. They face different risks, perform different tasks or services, and operate in different industries. That’s why there’s really no such thing as a generic commercial truck insurance policy, but instead, dozens of different types of specialty coverage plans.

So what are some of the types of specialty truck insurance to be familiar with? Staring with big rig or 18 wheeler trucks, different applications such as general freight, long haul, and commercial movers have different policies, as do owner operators.

Big rig trucks can also be specialized themselves, for instance, if they’re refrigerated trucks, or are involved with hazmat transportation. Owners of trucking fleets with many different drivers and perhaps types of vehicles will also find a different coverage requirement than a single person with a single truck.

From there, the world of specialty commercial auto insurance really gets broad and diverse. For example, food delivery trucks, food trucks and ice cream trucks. Then you have limousines, and charter buses or vans, along with taxi cabs, and ridesharing vehicles, such as Uber. Another classification are the companies operating either emergency medical transportation, or non-emergency medical transportation.

Specialty trucks also include specific vehicle classifications such as dump trucks, tow trucks, logging trucks, automobile haulers, waste haulers, wreckers, and on down the line. Truly, it’s a diverse field and this hasn’t even covered everything.

Don’t forget about pickup trucks, vans and regular automobiles. With regular cars, if you’re a business and using that car for any kind of even mundane business function, you may not have realized it, but you need commercial auto coverage beyond your personal policy or else you won’t be protected.

The point is, you need a specific policy that matches that unique type of vehicle and whatever function you’re performing as you operate it. Be sure to consult with an experienced insurance professional who can guide you through this process, and help you obtain the right policy for any specific need or circumstance.

Awesome Tips on How to Find the Cheapest Car Rental

With the emergence of the internet and the multitude of rental cars available both online and offline, you won’t have a hard time looking for the cheapest rental car. Although some people find it a bit puzzling because of the many choices available, if you exert a little time and effort, you will find the cheapest rental car that’s perfect for your need and your budget. As long as you know where to look, then you’re pretty much covered.

The internet has made it easy for most customers to look for the cheapest car rental. Most car rental websites are complete with all the information you need. Travel websites also include car rental information in their travel packages so customers could easily compare prices and avail of their choice.

You have to compare and contrast the prices of different car rental companies to find out what is the cheapest one around. But there’s another way for you to save more money when getting a car rental. You have to know how long you will need to use a car rental. If you need the car for a week or so, it’s better to rent one from a local car rental company because they are usually priced a little bit lower than those from major companies.

If you need a car for only a few days, you will find the cheapest rental car from national rental car companies. You can even make it a lot cheaper by checking your frequent flyer miles and credit card programs. They usually exchange your points for big discounts or free rental car services. This way, you also get to avoid the exorbitant drop-off fees if you’re availing of one-way rentals, plus airport surcharges, local taxes, and gasoline fees.

Insurance fees make rental cars more expensive. Check with your credit card company or car insurance if you are already covered with car rental insurance, particularly insurance for collision damage. The answer is most likely yes. Then, you wouldn’t have to pay for high insurance fees like collision damage waiver and loss damage waiver when renting cars.

Problems always arise in any business transaction when a customer seems to be paying for fees that were unknown to him before. These are the hidden fees written on fine print. So you have to read the entire terms and conditions to know if you are getting what you are paying for, and if you won’t have to pay for any more extra fees afterwards. There are restrictions and penalties and you have to know what these are. Otherwise, you might end up paying more than you’re willing to spend.

All this information should be able to help you. All you have to do is spend a little time going over all the information in rental car websites and apply the tips found here. Happy renting and travel safely!

Car Insurance – How To Get The Best Deal

Policy holders generally seem unaware, or uncaring, that they are probably paying more than they need to for their car insurance. While most vehicle owners would tend to agree on the need to look for the cheapest possible car insurance – they would also see the need to ensure, where at all possible, that they receive the cover they are paying for and the service is at the correct level.

You should never pay for things you do not need. And it's just the same with Car Insurance. It's a real waste of hard earned money to pay for items of cover that are just not needed.

For instance, lets say your car is old and when you get a quote for car insurance you find that the premium you have to pay is more than ten percent of your cars value. This is a good indicator that there is no reason to have comprehensive coverage in your car insurance.
But why should that be?

The answer is simple. Comprehensive coverage reimburses you in case of any damage to your car that is not a result of a collision with another car including, theft, flooding and fire. If your car is not of high value there is no reason to have this coverage.
But what about car theft?

The best way to prevent theft is the old way – installing anti theft devices. These are significantly cheaper than comprehensive car insurance and will probably last longer than your car!
As an added bonus, your insurance company will charge you a lesser premium because their statistics tell them these devices will help prevent theft.

But always remember that the insurance industry is constantly changing, like most others, so you must make sure you are updated on anything new that may affect your cover or your premium.
With that in mind you should make a point of going online every few months and complete a car insurance quote.

You may be surprised at what you find. Compare prices and you'll probably find it's easy to get cheaper car insurance.

You must always make sure that the cover you are being quoted on is right for you. Always enter accurate information, but do not be afraid to, for example, change from male main driver to female main driver, if that's appropriate in your circumstances. If this can be done it could save a significant amount.

Raising deductibles from, say, $ 250 to $ 500 often results in a saving of ten percent.

This article outlines just a few of the strategies you could adopt which would make a difference to the cost of your car insurance.

Scooters For Sale – Used Mobility Scooters

Electric mobility scooters were generally associated with the old and the disabled, that is, with men and women who have problems with moving around from one place to another. However, with the passage of changing time, these electric mobility scooters are gaining popularity. This popularity has gained so much power that electric mobility scooters are now being resold once the purpose to the actual customer gets over. This was not the case, even a few years back. This is because electric mobility scooters were bought only by those individuals who were advised to do so under the prescription of the doctor. At the present age, those people who are willing to buy these scooters without the prescription of the doctor can do so with the purchase of used mobility scooters.

However, there are a number of features in the used scooters that must need to be checked before purchasing it from the earlier user. Although these scooters work on batteries that are rechargeable, one should remember that such batteries also have limited life span and can not work beyond a certain period of time. It might happen that the person buying the used mobility scooter has to install a new battery in order to use the scooter to his maximum benefit. The points of charging and the motors are other essential features that need to be thoroughly checked before one makes the purchase of the used mobility scooter.

The parts in the scooters that under maximum movements are the teller, the seat and the wheel axles. These parts should also be assessed with care and caution. The seats must be checked for its capacity of swiveling. The seats are cushioned ones and possess the capacity of swiveling from 90 degrees to 360 degrees under proper working conditions. This capacity to swivel needs to be checked properly.Even the toller of the scooter demands attention. Faulty tiller might lead to the loss of the maneuvering capacity of the scooter.

It is generally believed that when one buys these scooter, the person does not sell it as it becomes a vital part of one's convenient and comfortable life. However, there are cases when a user might want to sell his / her scooter in order to buy a new, developed model with better technology and facilities. The amount of price that used scooters can come for is totally depended on the person who is selling the scooter. The price will obviously be proportionate to the condition of the used vehicle along with the number of operational features that it contains, the model number, the years for which it has been used. It is observed that the price range of a used mobility scooter varies from $ 100 to $ 500.

It is of utmost necessity for the new buyer to know about the details of the used scooter as it has been handled in the hands of the original customer, or the present seller. This will help the buyer not fall into a drain where he / she lands up with only an electric model that is of little or no function at all.

Auto Repair Service – 30k, 60k, 90k, Automobile Dealership Rip-Offs

I had a friend call me recently because he brought his 2007 Nissan in for a 90k auto service (90,000 mile service). Most of these services are the biggest scams I have ever been apart of (yeah sorry). As a flat rate mechanic I absolutely loved them (back in the day). My friend paid through the nose for crap, he knew it after wards, and at least declined the BS up-sells.

Thirty thousand mile services are a glorified oil change with a tire rotation. I used to get paid 3 or 4 hours to do a 30k service (Done in 1 hr tops). Oh, you sure inspect a lot of stuff, stuff that does not need inspecting. The original 30k’s, before we had 100,000 mile fluids and spark plugs, you actually had to do some work.

Here’s the deal! You go in for an oil change every 3000 miles, and a oil change and tire rotation every 6000 miles or so. If you need repair work, like brakes or front end work, they will notice. They crawl all over your car looking for an up-sell, you don’t have to pay them for these routine inspections, that’s all these services are, routine inspections. Most shops give you free 16 point inspections for free with an oil change.

I recommend getting your oil changed and tire rotations by “certified mechanics”, not jiffy this, or sooner that. whether in a dealership or private auto repair facility they have “guys”, they give this easy work to. Don’t let sub par mechanics work on your car. The labor rate does not change depending on who’s working on your car, so ask for a certified mechanic (your already paying for him).

Donating Cars in California

Have you recently purchased a new car and are having problems with your old one? You don’t know where to park them? Well, one good way of disposing these old vehicles is to donate them. The best place for car donation is the state of California.

Car donation in California is a famous alternative for those who have old vehicles. Car owners can donate their vehicles including vans, cars, boats and other types of vehicles to a charity of their choice. This is one good way of getting rid of an old useless vehicle. In addition, you are able to help those who are in need without bothering yourself about what to do with that car.

The vehicle does not need to be in very good condition to be donated. In fact, broken down cars may also be donated. These centers would tow the broken cars for free. They will then fix these and auction them for a profit. The money earned from the auction will be given to the charity of your own choice.

Another way of donating automobile is by giving it to a poor family. According to the research done by Surface Transportation Policy Project (STPP), a non-profit agency, 20 percent of the American poor families can not buy a car. They are spending 40.2 percent of their budget with transportation expenses. STPP conducts a study about transportation alternative choices of Americans.

There are advantages in donating your ride in California. In other states, you are required to have the original title in order to donate. This is not the case here. In fact, as long as you are the legal owner of the car, you can still donate. The Center for Car Donations would provide you with a duplicate title form to be signed. On the other hand, car donors are entitled to a tax deduction. This is in accordance with the new tax law of 2005. In some cases, you are given a free vacation for your act of charity.

Another benefit of donating car in California is the free towing services offered. You’re not required to bring the car to the Center for Car Donations. They are ready to pick it up especially if it is not in good running condition anywhere within the state.

You simply follow steps in giving out your car. First, prepare the vehicle. While it is not necessary for the car to be in good running condition, it would still be good if you make sure that it is presentable enough. Simply clean it and make sure you have nothing of your personal belongings left inside.

You also need to prepare all the important documents like registration and insurance. If you don’t have the title, the Center for Car donation would provide you with a duplicate title form. After gathering all the documents to be transferred, make an online search for car donation companies that would facilitate your car donation. Make sure that the company is valid before submitting all the documents. This would prevent you from falling victim of scams.

When the car is picked up, the company would give you a tax form. This is important for you to avail of tax deduction. Make sure to file a notice of release of liability to a local Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV). Ask the people who picked up your car on how to fill out the form. Lastly, inform your insurance company that you donated your car to charity. Do this on the day you release your car. This is important for them so they can discontinue the insurance coverage.

Auto Repair Shops Adopt Environmentally Responsible Practices

It's taken a long time to realize that some of the things that we humans did in the past are not the best practices for a healthy environment. Most everyone is now aware that it is important to include environmentally friendly practices in all that we do. This is as true for auto repair shops as it is for our households.

How can an auto repair shop reduce the negative impact on the environment?

Here are some good practices that an auto shop can adopt:

Recycle
Recycling antifreeze, oils, lubricants, air conditioning refrigerant, tires, oil filters are pretty much obvious and often required by law, but what about cardboard, paper, plastics, metal, fluorescent bulbs, glass and other objects so easy to just dump into the garbage bin? It takes a bit of time to sort everything, but if you have a system set up, then it only takes a few minutes every day.

Return Center
In addition to recycling your own shop use the products, make a return center for items such as used automotive lubricating oils, filters, antifreeze, used plastic oil and antifreeze containers and all types of batteries. In our shop we gladly accept liquids up to 20 Liters maximum, in sealed containers during business hours. It just makes good sense and provides convenience to customer who may otherwise have to go out of their way way to get rid of these items.

Recycled Oil
While we do not dispute the method or intention, we are not convinced it is a viable option for sophisticated modern engines like most cars have today. A better alternative is to have the waste oil removed by a government certified hauler to be consumed as fuel in large industrial plants. This gives the oil a new life and it is re-used in a responsible way.

Good Use of Recycled Products
Where it makes sense to use recycled products we do, for example recycled engine antifreeze and coolants where the process is up to standards of the original equipment manufacturer of the vehicle it is going to be used in. This is about two thirds of the coolant we use.

Automobiles
Let's face it, automobiles are mobile hazardous waste generators, even when they are sitting still. We have not found a way yet to achieve a near zero auto carbon footprint but it is our responsibility to reduce that negative impact as much as possible. That responsibility is shared by the car owner as much as it is by the shop that services that car. A car running in top shape does more than just reduce carbon emissions, a car service shop that adopts environmentally friendly practices contributes to a community's well being.

Auto Suspension Parts: Know Your Vehicle

Imagine that you are traveling in your car and you encounter a large speed breaker in the middle of the route that you have to cross. You feel uncomfortable because you are aware your vehicle has a poor suspension system. However, if you had effective suspension parts installed, there was no need to worry about bumps or other similar hurdles. Suspension parts can help you to cross hurdles on the road smoothly.

Let's check out the different parts of a suspension system.

Control Arm: This is also known as wishbone. The shape of this suspension part is nearly triangular. It resembles 'A', so sometimes it is also referred to as the A-arm. On one side, it is attached to a steering knuckle with a ball joint, and on the other side it is attached to an arm shaft with bushing.

Bushing: A small but important part in the suspension system. Bushing is mostly made of synthetic rubber to separate out its two metal parts. This synthetic rubber helps both metal parts to coordinate smoothly. It also helps the suspension parts to move freely when navigating a large bump, for example. There are polyurethane bushhes also available in the market that are more durable.

Ball Joint: A ball joint is a spherical bearing. Generally, it is used to join the steering knuckles and the control arms. It is a very important part between the steering and suspension, and it is responsible for safe operation. The difference between these and the standard ball joints is that lubricants are not needed for sealed ball joints because they are already lubed, while standard ball joints need regular lubing else they may cause loss control.

Sway Bar: Sway bars are also known as stabilizer bars. A sway bar is used in a vehicle suspension system to reduce jerks caused by irregular road surfaces. It also helps the vehicle to keep a 'grip' on the road so that the driver can steer the vehicle well, even while turning or in the case of poor road surfaces.

Idler Arms & Pitman Arms: Idler and pitman arms depend on the support of steering linkage. An idler arm is fitted to the opposite of pitman arm on the center link. It helps to hold the center link at a proper height by attaching the other end onto the vehicle frame. The Pitman arm helps to steer the wheel because one of its ends is attached to the vehicle's steering gear.

The ones discussed here are only some of the auto suspension parts. There are many more big and small parts within the suspension system. Adjusting sleeves, center links, drag links, strut mounts, swy bar links, tie rod ends, wheel hubs, and other similar parts are also components of auto suspension. Without understanding these parts, you can not fully understand your vehicle suspension system.

5 Reasons Why You Should Motorise Your Garage Roller Door

Wireless technology allows doors to be controlled via key fob, wireless key switch or wireless key fob. Motorized garage doors allow for a rapid entry and exit by use of remote controlled devices. They are also far more secure than a non-motorized garage door. The home or business owner can program the opener to respond to a pre-selected PIN code before the door will open, preventing thieves from unlawfully entering the promises. They also allow owners to sync their systems to other home security systems, so that if a breach does occur, law enforcement officials will be notified immediately. Strongly consider the five aspects that have been highlighted below:

1. Security
Motorized roller doors fit into steel guides that span the height of the door opening. These doors are equipped with dual-lock bars or a comb-locking mechanism. A bottom rail is included to reinvigorate the door against possible intruders. When lowered, the controller provides protection against lifting and drawing in. Security can be further improved by the addition of an alarm.

2. Optional Drive System
This is essentially the mechanism by which the motor opens and closes your door. The two most popular are chain or belt drive systems. Roller Doors open vertically into a compact roll above the opening, taking up minimal space in the garage. They are highly versatile. With many garages being built with segmented, squared or full arch, they are able to fit any type of garage opening. By having them motorized, you are still provided with an option of having a chain or belt driven system. Chain drives use a metal chain to run the door on its track – they're usually the least expensive, and the most rugged, but can also be noisy. Belt drive openings are almost silent, as they run on a rubber belt.

3. Minimum motor power
The power of your motor will depend on the weight of your garage door. Most garage roller doors measure up to 8 'wide and this makes them suitable for a motor rated at about 45kgs only. This means that you do not need needlessly to use a motor with great amounts of power output.

4. Safety Protection System
The greatest question to ask yourself when you install a garage door is, "Could the door hurt someone if they're in the way?" Most automated garage doors have a safety protection system. This means that they will immediately stop if there is an obstacle in the way. A roller door rolls up vertically inside the garage above the opening and does not have an outwing like it's up & over counterpart. This allows you to park right up in front of your door and provides more interior garage space.

5. Feedback System
The automation control is equipped with an LED light to provide system status and maintenance diagnosis. Integrated courtesy light, automatically switches on with garage door operation. Settings are automatically maintained to ensure that the roller garage door rolls up fully and closes perfectly over time, protecting your installation.

A Guide to Auto Detailing

If you want to enhance the look of your vehicle, take it to an auto detailing shop. Most places charge a nominal fee for auto detailing services. If you find that you are in between paychecks and can not afford to get to an auto detailing shop right away, you can do some light delay on your own until you are able to get to the shop.

The first thing you need to do is to wash the outside of the car with soap and water. You can use a car wash liquid or you can use dish soap. Be sure to have another bucket available with just plain water. Take a hose and spray the car down to get rid of the grime and dirt. Wheel cleaner can be sprayed onto each wheel and let it sit for a few minutes. By letting it set, it will soften up the brake dust and will allow you to have an easier time to cleaning your wheels using a sponge and soapy water, clean the vehicle one side at a time. It is usually easier to start with the roof and work your way down. Then rinse off the car and then clean the wheels with a brush and then rinse them.

Clay bars can be bought at any automotive parts store. There are different grades available, but fine or medium is best. What the bar does is it gets all the bugs, grease, dirt and contaminants off of your car. Take an empty spray bottle and add soap and water. Spray each side of the car with the soap and water mixture and then take the clay bar and rub it over the parts of the car in order to remove all of the contaminants. Then take a hose and rinse off the entire car.

Polishing your vehicle can be done by hand with a rag or by using an electric buffer. Many people tend to choose an orbital buffer because it helps to prevent them from ruining the paint. As a small amount of the polish either straight onto the car or onto the buffer pads. You then need to let it dry completely before the next step.

The next step is to take a swirl remover and go over the entire vehicle with a swirl of mover which will help get rid of scratches and swirl marks. Let the remover dry and then take a clean cloth and wipe down the car.

Take the rubbing compound and clean the taillights, tailpipes and headlights. If you find that the headlights are starting to look faded, you may need to utilize some sand paper along with soap and water. There are also kits that are sold that are used to clean the headlights and tail lights. Be sure not to use a lower number texture of wallpaper, because this will scratch plastic and you may not be able to fix it after that. You want the finest sandwich but not the lowest number. You can clean the tailpipe with polish that is made to clean aluminum or metal.

Take a clean cloth and some liquid wax in order to ask the vehicle. You do not need to use a lot of wax. Let the wax dry on your vehicle and then take a clean rag and wipe the car down. The end result will be a shiny vehicle.

Preparing Your Car For Shipping

If you've received your car transport estimates and have selected a car transport service there are some preparations you need to take before your car shipping company comes to pick up your car or when you leave it at the car shipping service's terminal.

Take these steps ahead of time to minimizeize potential problems that could arise while your car is being shipped:

Unless you are shipping a non-operating car or truck, like an antique automobile, and your car shipping service knows about it, have your car serviced ahead of time so that it will start, stop and roll like it's supposedly to.

Check your car's liquids, battery charge and air pressure in the tires.

Secure or remove any bolted on accessories, like roof racks, extra mirrors, air dams, spoilers, etc.

Lower or remove all antennas. If you have an EZ pass device remove it before shipping.

Thoroughly wash the car and clean the interior. If shipping the car overseas, have the undercarriage washed. The destination country may require it.

Have any fluid leakage problems corrected. If you car is leaking fluid, make sure the car shipping service knows about it in advance and that the driver is aware of it so your car does not get placed above another car in transit and damage it.

Do not leave this item until the last minute.

Provide a full set of keys to your car shipping service. If you need to make additional keys, do so ahead of time and make sure they all work.

If you're moving the car to an area with harsh weather, get it ready by having the air conditioning serviced, the antifreeze protection increased, or by using the proper viscosity oil for the new climate. Remove all personal items from your vehicle. Shipping personal effects inside a car that's being shipped is against the law in the US and the car shipping service can get fined. Additionally, personal effects in your car general do not have much if any insurance coverage and you are exposing them to the risk of theft.

The only thing you should leave in the car is the jack and the spare tire.

Is Budget Car Insurance Cost Effective?

Budget car insurance is widely available on plenty of broker quote sites online.

If you have really good credit, you will automatically pay a lot less for car insurance than most people. Most insurance companies will pull a copy of your credit report as a matter of prudence.

It has been proven that there is a direct relation between your credit score and how likely it is that you will file an insurance claim with an insurance company. This means that if you are a high claimer and are looking for budget car insurance, it may prove difficult.

If you are seeking budget car insurance you could be construed as high risk.

In addition, your insurance company wants to know that you will pay your bills on time, so if your credit score shows that you pay bills late as a matter of routine, you may have some problems getting budget insurance.

Unfortunately, a lot of companies will judge you automatically via your credit score, including budget car insurance companies.

If you drive a fancy car, you can expect to pay more for insurance. New cars cost more to fix, so do expensive cars. Don’t expect to get great budget car insurance if you drive a luxury car.

Some auto insurers have a rating system according to your car make and model. Each car has a number on that rating system from 1 to 27. Factored into these numbers are risk factors such as theft and also the overall safety of the vehicle. For example, older model cars that do not have air bags will probably be more costly to ensure as well therefore budget insurance will not fit this criterion.

If you find what you think is really cheap budget insurance, pay special attention to the “hidden” costs. If you are paying via installment payments, you can definitely expect to pay a lot more over the long run because of administrative costs and interest that are factored into those payments.

When you get a budget car insurance quote, read the fine details.

Sometimes what you think is a good deal for budget car insurance may not be in the end.

If you have a newer vehicle, for example, find out what value your insurance company considers “replacement value” on your car. It may be worth it to pay a little extra to get the value of your vehicle at the time you insure it, rather than the blue book value. It may surprise you to find out that most insurance companies will not give you replacement value if you write your car off.

If you switch insurers, be sure to cancel the existing policy you have with your previous insurer, or you may end up paying both policies. Just because you decide to go with a lower cost policy does not mean that your previous insurer will automatically cancel your insurance policy.

It is a good idea to be aware of all the ins and outs of a lower cost insurance policy. Just because you are paying less for the cheapest car insurance does not mean that you are getting the best deal in the long run.

Due diligence is a must as budget insurance may not be the best option.

The Journey of Ford Motors

Henry Ford began the journey of Ford motors in the year 1903. Since the incorporation of the organization, Ford motors has grown to become one of the biggest players in the automotive industry. In the past 100 plus years, Ford has been successful pushing limits in automotive technology and in introducing cars that have gained the loyalty of millions of consumers.

FUN FACT!! The very first Ford sold was to Dr. Pfennig in 1903, for a grand total of $850. The “Model A” had a 2-cylinder engine and could reach a max speed of 30 mph

The popularity factor is not something that is new to Ford. In fact, in 1903, the first Model T was introduced that gained immense popularity. The demand was so high that the company had to get innovative with its mass production methods. In 1911, Ford went across the oceans and established a branch in Manchester, England. To meet the increased demand and need for quick production, Ford Motors changed history in the automotive industry by introducing the first moving assembly line at the Highland Park Assembly Plant in the year 1913. The first assembly line has 140 assemblers who worked along a 150-foot line to assemble the parts. By the 1920s, the company has over 20 overseas assembly plants across the world and was the largest automobile producer in America.

In 2008, when the three big automakers – Ford, General Motors and Chrysler were facing major financial issues, The United States government have to the rescue by providing financial aid through TARP (Troubled Assets Relief Program). Ford was the only organization that was able to survive the difficult time and did not file for bankruptcy. Since then the company has been steadily advancing and leaving its mark on the industry.

Since the turn of the decade, Ford has been investing in manufacturing fuel-efficient models. It has been successful in making cars that have high performance while at the same time being eco-friendly. Today, Ford is among the leading sellers for hybrid and electronic cars in America.

As of 2018, Ford has announced that it will be phasing out its passenger cars and focus on creating electric cars, hybrids, pickups, and SUVs. It is also working towards bringing advanced technology to make consumers’ driving experiences comfortable and luxurious. Ford will be bringing back the popular Ranger and Bronco beginning in 2019, along with a Diesel version of the F-150 truck.

Common Auto Repair Ripoffs

According to the California Bureau of Automotive Repair, there are over 25,000 consumer complaints filed concerning fraudulent auto repair every year. Car owners lose an estimated $20 million annually on unnecessary car repairs. And while most shops are, in fact, honest, it’s easy to see how dishonest mechanics can take advantage of customers: most people know little or nothing about car repair. But to avoid falling victim to auto repair rip-offs, it’s good to know about the ones that are commonly used.

False Estimates

This scam happens when mechanics give you a low initial repair estimate, only to hike up the costs when you come to pick up your vehicle after repairs have been done. The excuse for the extra costs will usually be that new problems were found during the work and they needed immediate fixing. Most people end up paying the hiked up price because they have no way of verifying the legitimacy of the mechanics’ claims. Get all estimates in writing and signed to avoid falling victim to this scheme.

Shady Highway Shops

Car shops located along the side of the road cater to car owners whose automobiles break down in the middle of the highway. They will sometimes charge exaggerated prices and bill you for extra repairs because they know that you’ll likely pay the extra money rather than get stranded in the middle of the highway.

Hook Deal Scams

When auto shops advertise ultra low or free deals on oil changes or tire rotations, their plan is to get you in for the low-cost/free service and then convince you to purchase more expensive repair services based on the recommendations they come up with after inspecting your car. Dishonest mechanics will sometimes make up problems or cause them themselves in order to get your money. If a suggested repair doesn’t seem right, get a second opinion before agreeing to the job.

Unnecessary Part Replacements

Some mechanics will try to convince you that a part of your car needs immediate replacement, when in fact the part is not broken and works just fine. To avoid falling victim to this scam, always ask to see the part that supposedly needs replacing. If it doesn’t look broken, get a second opinion. And ask to keep the old part to make sure that a replacement was actually performed.

How to Make Money at the Dog Track in the Summer

Greyhound tracks have to compete with a lot of summer time activities. People are out enjoying the nicer weather. They can go to the beach, picnic or take in a movie without contending with icy roads or cold weather.

So, to get them to go to the track, many venues offer rewards or special promotions. Some of these may include prizes as big as new cars or as small as free sodas, cheap beer and food. All of it is designed by their publicity people to get more people to come to the track.

Sometimes, someone gets the bright idea that music will get people into the track. Why this is, I’ve never been able to figure out. If I want to listen to music, I turn on the radio or put my MP3 player’s earbuds in. If I want to handicap dogs, I sit down where it’s quiet and go over my program.

But someone, somewhere, came up with the idea that dog racing fans will show up in bigger numbers if you offer them a more “carnival-like” atmosphere. That’s why you’ll find booths and umbrellas with radio dj’s broadcasting live and NASCAR drivers signing autographs in the clubhouse.

This is all well and good, but if you’re smart, you’ll ignore it and get as far away from it as you can. This is all designed to attract people who don’t usually go to the track. It’s not of any use to the serious handicapper, who is at the track to make money.

When the carnival comes to the dog track, the best thing you can do is remember to keep your eye on the center ring, where you can make money by picking the winner out of 8 dogs. Ignore the sideshows and glitter and focus on why you’re there – to make money.
