The Motorized Wheelchair – Is It For You?

The concept of a motorized wheelchair has been around for some time now and the designs are currently available on the market are extremely varied. Your choice of model will usually depend on your needs and the amount to which you need assistance in being mobile. You must factor these things in before making a purchase as electrical wheelchairs are often not the cheapest of items and represent an investment in your quality of life. Should you buy a model you are not happy using you could find yourself having spent an awful lot of money for absolutely nothing.

There are several types of wheelchair that are motorized; the most common of these are the models that still look like a normal wheelchair. Often these units can still be pushed around like normal but when the occupant finds themselves alone they can use the motor to get around. There are several ways that these models can be adapted to be control by the user. Some work with a simple hand controlled joystick where as others has been made that are controlled by the users mouth. It all comes down to the amount of mobility available to the user.

Another common type of power wheel chair is the electric scooter. These four wheeled little beauties are normally used by the elderly to get around. They come in two different types, front wheel drive and rear wheel drive. Front wheel drive models are often smaller and used to get around whilst inside a building where as the rear wheel drives models are designed for getting out and about. These models are often capable of quite high speeds considering their usual occupants. The range on this kind of mobility scooter is normally around 25 to 30 miles so it does open a lot of doors to the less mobile.

Whatever you reasoning for wanting to buy a wheelchair that is motorized there will certainly be a model to suit your needs. You might want to talk to your doctor or your health insurance company before making a purchase though as often there are means of buying them at a discounted price if you fulfill certain criteria. If the price of buy new is going to be too much there is always the option of buy one second hand. There are quite a few on the market at extremely reasonable prices. The choice is all yours at the end of the day.

How To Maintain Car Engines For Fuel Efficiency

Fuel efficiency of car engines is considered as an imperative and essential factor when buying a new car, all thanks to the high fuel prices. Most car makers have taken action to provide more fuel efficient cars that return more than 80mpg of economy however, there are millions of old cars that people use for their daily commute, by following the simple guidelines below, they can also achieve maximum fuel efficiency and the lowest carbon emissions from their car engines.

1. Keep the Engine Appropriately Tuned

It is very important to follow the maintenance schedule of the engine, for instance, replacement of air filter, spark plug and oxygen sensors, also keep an eye on any on-board diagnostics malfunctions in the Engine Control Module. The most important is to change the engine oil as instructed in your car’s manual.

2. Fuel Evaporation

Fuel evaporation is another parameter that needs to be attended by tightly closing the fuel tank lids and by parking in shades, believe it or not, can improve your mileage by as much as 10 percent.

3. Use the Recommended Grade Engine Oil

The most important factor to keep your car engine at fuel efficient state is proper engine oil with low-kinematic thickness that is also referred to as low “weight” engine oil. You can get better mileage by 1-2 percent by using the recommended grade of vehicle engine oil. For instance, using 10W-30 motor oil in an engine intended to use 5W-30 can worsen your fuel efficiency by 1-2 percent. Contemporary engines have such accurate tolerance that very trivial oil is often required, thicker oil, such as 10W30 or 10W40, may not lubricate as well, because it won’t pour as swiftly into key oil ways and fractures. You must check the owner’s manual for suggested viscosity and ask for it exclusively when oil is changed.

4. Minimise the Idling

Your engine wastes fuel when car is in idle state, simply because you are burning fuel while going nowhere. If you are waiting for someone and you know that it will take more than 30 seconds, switch your engine off because you are just burning money.

5. Keep Tyres Appropriately Inflated

You can get up to 3.3 percent better mileage by keeping your car tyres inflated to the suitable pressure, this reduces the resistance so less power is required to move the car. Under-inflated tyres can lower your engine efficiency through more fuel consumption. The correct tyre pressure for your vehicle is generally found on a sticky label in the driver’s side door jamb and/or in your owner’s manual. Do not use the utmost pressure printed on the tyre’s sidewall.

6. Smooth Driving

The way you drive your car also plays a huge role in fuel consumption, by driving fast, you might save 5-10 minutes, however by smoothing down you can improve the fuel consumption of your car’s engine, if you normally drive on a motorway at 70mph, try changing it to 60mph can increase the fuel economy by up to 4 miles per gallon. Avoid as much as you can from putting your foot down on the throttle and from stomping on the brake paddle, this will not only save you on fuel costs but also money on wear and tear of brakes.

Cheap Car Insurance Tips – Finding The Cheapest Car Insurance Quotes

With car insurance costs becoming higher every year, there are more and more people looking to purchase cheap car insurance. And even though it’s possible to buy low-cost automotive coverage, the big question is whether it’s worth buying.

We all know that automotive insurance firms can differ greatly. Finding cheap auto insurance is great when you are paying the monthly premium, but by making a mistake regarding the company you decide to do business with can lead to many problems in the future, especially when you are trying to file a claim.

Therefore it’s imperative when you are researching different automotive insurance brokers to not only look at the cheapest quotes you can find. It is important to check out the firm carefully which offers these inexpensive rates. Additionally, there are other ways for consumers to cut the cost of their car insurance coverage regardless of which company you are a policyholder.

Here are a few tips that will help you in this matter.

1. Always carefully calculate the deductible. Remember, the amount of the policy will relate to how much you set as the deductible. This is something that very few people take into consideration, however the fact is if you have a good record and do not mind a bigger deductible, you can save on the monthly premium.

2. Make your car safer and less at risk regarding theft. By installing anti-theft devices, you will decrease your risk profile. This relates to having a vehicle that is less expensive to insure. Additionally, driving a vehicle with the latest safety devices can also affect your premiums.

3. Consider consolidating all your insurance policies with one company. There are many firms who will give existing clients discounts if they carry all their insurance needs with them. Inquire if your home or life insurance carrier also has an automotive policy available.

4. Research online diligently. There are many websites around today that allow consumers to do an extensive comparison of different car insurance rates. It’s usually a matter of keying in your zip code, the type of vehicle you drive along with your past driving history including traffic violations.

If you are currently in the market for automotive coverage at a highly reduced rate, performing a little research can go a long way. Websites such as Car Insurance Choice allow consumers to get an instant quote in order to make an informed decision.

Auto Transport – ELD Big News

Car haulers, this subject already sounds pretty familiar to every motor car carrier that's thinking long term in the industry.

Here are some insights you need to know directly from FMCSA about the ELD rule:

ELD is used by commercial drivers with the requirement to prepare:

HOS – Hours of service
RODS – Records of duty status
ELD will need to also be certified and registered with FMCSA, along with having supporting documents for drivers / car carriers required to keep in the truck.

So, beginning on December 18, 2017, a driver using an ELD must have an ELD information packet onboard the commercial vehicle vehicle (CMV).

Speaking about it, an ELD can be on a smartphone or other wireless device if the device meets the ELD rule's technical specifications.

Data Storage:

For six months, a motor carrier must keep both the ELD Records of:

hours services data
a back-up copy of that data on a separate device
The car carrier must ensure that these records are stored securely to protect driver privacy.

An ELD automatically records the following data elements at certain intervals:

date
time
location information
engine hours
vehicle miles
identification information for the driver
authenticated user
vehicle
motor carrier

Location data must be recorded by an ELD at 60-minute intervals when the vehicle is in motion, driver powers up and shuts down the engine, change duty status, and indications personal use or yard moves.

Also, keep in mind that an ELD must automatically switch to driving mode once the commercial vehicle vehicle (CMV) is moving up to a set speed threshold of five miles per hour. As a result, the in-motion state must not be configured greater than five miles per hour. The vehicle will be considered stopped once its speed falls to zero miles per hour and holds at zero miles per hour for three consecutive seconds.

Guess what else?

The ELD must convert automatically captured vehicle position in latitude / longitude coordinates into geo-location information that reflects the approximate distance and direction to an identifiable location corresponding to the name of a nearby city, town, or village, with a State abbreviation.

Engine synchronization CMV – ELD

An ELD must be integrally synchronized with the engine of the commercial motor vehicle (CMV). Engine synchronization means monitoring engine engine to automatically capture the engine power status, vehicle motion status, miles driven, and engine hour

Vehicle performance? Not really.

Yes, the ELD rule allows but does not require, warning or notification to drivers when they are near their HOS limits.

Data export from ELD

Since all ELD data file output will be a standard comma-delimited file, a driver may import the data output file into Microsoft Excel, Word notepad, or other common tools. A driver will also be able to access ELD records through a screen display or a printout, depending on the ELD design.

Bluetooth Feature

If the driver is using a "local" ELD with Bluetooth capabilities, the authorized safety official will activate Bluetooth on his or her computing device and the driver will initiate the Bluetooth electronic transfer of the data from the driver's ELD to the safety official's computing device.

The official will provide a Bluetooth pairing code for the driver to enter into the ELD for the data file transfer.

Here's a cool list you can review – ELD's Compliant List

The plug-in device to your truck's ECM communicates the relevant data to software on your smartphone – the software enables the log to work, likewise electronic pre-trip / post trip inspection reports.

The ECM plug-in communicates with your smartphone, as with many others, over Bluetooth, and guiding smartphone apps are currently available on both iOS and Android platforms. Administration of the data is done through a web-based software program users create a unique account.

Most ELDS pair an engine-connected relay with another device, often an operator's smartphone or tablet, hence the common BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) design.

For such devices, some contain a cellular connection within the engine-connected relay, some do not.

For those that do not, generally, extra costs incurred for data-plan charges on a smartphone are not reflected here.

Just a quick overview for car haulers:

We're covering just new industry information so that every single car hauler out there can read it and get a general idea – for full in depth explanation of specific cases feel free to visit FMCSA for sure.

Motor Home 101: Class Types and Basic Facts

Are you thinking of buying your first motor home? Also known as coaches and recreational vehicles (RVs), these vehicles can be expensive, but motor homes are often considered a convenient and fun way to travel. Why travel in a big vehicle versus traveling in cars and staying in hotels? Well, you sleep in your own bed, use your own bathroom, and there’s no packing and unpacking. You may think the cost of fueling an RV will be too high, but without the cost of hotel rooms and eating out, your expenses will be greatly reduced. Let’s take a look at the different types of motor homes.

Class C

The class C, or mini motor home, is built on the chassis of a van or truck and includes a pickup truck cab. These vehicles are roughly the size of a moving van. One noticeable feature is the bedroom, which is mounted over the cab. The maximum length of a class C is 28 feet long, which means you’ll be able to back up and turn corners easily. These units combine a few of the luxuries of a recreational vehicle with much easier handling. Typically, these units will sleep up to five.

Class B

This RV is created from a standard passenger or work minivan. Some models include a raised roof for more head room. Since these vehicles are smaller, they are easier to drive around town and can be parked in your driveway. You can also access smaller camping sites that the big coaches can’t use. Class Bs can be used as a second car when you’re not traveling. These vehicles usually accommodate two people but not more than four.

Class A

These coaches can be as long as 45 feet. With so much space inside, these vehicles boast a rear master suite, including a full bathroom with an enclosed shower. Washer-dryer combos are included so you can do the laundry on the go. Many class As include slide-out rooms, which provide spacious room inside. Luxuries include flat screen TVs, surround sound stereo, ice machines, and dishwashers. The list of options and upgrades are practically endless. With enough storage to keep you on the road permanently, these vehicles allow you to travel all day and sleep comfortably at night, so you can get up the next day and start traveling all over again. One drawback to the large version is that when you park for the night, you’re stuck there unless you tow a car to use around the town.

Gas or Diesel Engine

This preference is up to you. Gasoline is less expensive than diesel, but a diesel engine has more torque and will climb hills much better than a gas-powered engine.

Costs can range from $6,000 for a used coach, and up to millions for a large, luxury-equipped motor home. The average price for a new one is between $95,000 to $250,000. Visit your local dealer today to see what they have to offer.

The Evolution of Transportation

People and things have always had the need to move or be moved from one place to another. People have always looked for more comfortable or quicker ways to travel. Transportation is a way people and things move from one place to another. Different environments require different methods of transportation.

People have invented machines, called vehicles or crafts, to travel. Some vehicles travel on the ground, like a train. Some vehicles travel on top of the water, like a jet ski. Some even help people to travel under the water, like a submarine. People use other types of crafts to travel in the air. A hot air balloon is an interesting way to travel through the sky.

Crafts such as rockets can help people to travel into space. Over the centuries, inventors designed machines or improved ways of traveling to move people faster and faster.

Ships and Boats

One of the earliest ways to transport people and things was by traveling in the water. Boats are small crafts generally used for a special purpose like fishing. Ships are larger crafts that might use sails or an engine to propel them through the water. They may travel on rivers, lakes, or oceans.

Boats With Paddles

People use flat wooden boards called paddles to row small boats. An oar is another name for a paddle. A raft is a simple boat with a flat bottom. We can make a raft using tree trunks or logs. Sometimes, flat pieces of wood called planks are bound together to make a raft. Some rafts are made of rubber or a plastic called vinyl. These rafts are often inflatable.

Early Native Americans made canoes out of tree trunks. They hollowed out the trunk and used a paddle to move from place to place. Today, an artificial substance, made by man, called fiberglass is a popular material for building a canoe.

A kayak is a sleeker version of a canoe with one or two small holes. The holes are where people sit. A rider may attach a watertight skin or enclosure to prevent water from getting in the boat. The boat can turn all the way over without sinking. Some people compete in kayak races. The Olympics have had a kayak event since 1936.

Boats With Sails or Motors

Other boats and ships use different types of power. A sailboat uses pieces of canvas or other fabrics called sails, which are filled by the wind fills and pushes the boat forward.

Ancient Egyptians used sailboats to move the stones for the Great Pyramids from Aswan to Giza. Pilgrims traveled from England on a large sailboat called the Mayflower to reach America in 1620.

A motorboat uses an electric motor and propellers. Propellers are turning metal blades that help the vessel to move through the water. A speedboat is a small, but very fast motorboat. Speedboats pull water skiers, help the Coast Guard or marine patrol on rescue missions, or might even compete in a race.

Larger Boats and Ships

Most large ships are made of metals like iron or steel. They use giant propellers powered by engines to move through the water. A steamboat is a large boat with paddles. A steam-powered engine turns the paddles to move the boat.

The biggest ships are tankers and aircraft carriers. Oil tankers can carry millions of barrels of oil inside huge cargo areas. Designers built tankers to travel long distances and other than oil, they may transport water, chemicals, or liquefied natural gas.

Aircraft carriers are long, flat warships designed to act as a floating airbase. Planes take off and land on the runways on the top of the ship.

A submarine is a metal ship that can travel underwater. A submarine can be small enough to carry one or two people and remain underwater for a few hours. They can also be very large, have a crew of over eighty people and remain underwater for a few months.

Trains

A train is a vehicle that runs on tracks, or rails. Passenger trains may have many compartments for people to travel from one place to another. Freight trains carry cargo, or things. Different cars transport different types of items.

Refrigerator cars transport food. Container cars need a crane to lift cargo in or out of the car. Tanker cars transport different types of liquids.

Light Rail

People sometimes use the term light rail to talk about trains that run on city streets. A trolley, also called a streetcar, is one type of light rail transportation. The first streetcars were pulled by horses or even people. Modern streetcars usually get their power from electricity. Electricity makes things run.

A subway is a light rail system of cars. A subway runs on the street and in underground tunnels. Many large cities …

Cash For Cars: Selling An Old Car

If you have an old car, there are a number of people who can buy it. Scrap metal dealers are one of the people who often buy old vehicles. They usually collect metal parts and later sell them to recycling industries.

Scrap metal dealers usually buy old cars depending on their weights and due to this, they often buy the cars at very low prices.

You can also sell your car to scrap car dealers. These people buy, renovate, and later sell the cars. Just like scrap metal dealers, these people don’t buy the vehicles at high prices.

Vintage car collectors also buy old cars. The good side is that there are many vintage car enthusiasts who are out there looking for great cars to buy. The collectors buy the cars for fun and store them in their garages.

They usually buy the cars depending on their condition; therefore, if your car is in good condition you will be paid good amounts of money.

These are four of the main people who can buy your old car. For you to effectively sell the car, you need to do the following:

Take a Look at the Blue Book: the blue book is a catalog of car values that helps you in identifying the true value of your car. The catalog is easily available as you can easily find it in libraries and banks. You can also access it online.

Take a Look at the Classified Section: Local newspapers and auto-trader publications have classified sections where cars are advertised. You should get your favorite newspaper or publication and take a look at the classified section. Taking a look at the section will help you in finding out the market value of your car.

Fix Your Car: if you are planning of selling your old car to a vintage car collector or any other person, you should ensure that the vehicle is in good condition. This calls for you to wash the vehicle, wax it and fix any small problems such as broken knobs. You should also thoroughly clean the interior. Doing this helps you in uplifting the image of the vehicle and as a result you will sell it at a high price.

Avoid Making Low Offers: when you find a buyer interested in buying your old car, you should avoid making low offers. To be on the safe side you should always have a minimum amount that you will accept and if the buyer gives you an offer that is lower than that, you should politely decline it.

Everything You Wanted To Know About Electric Car Engines

EV motors (electric vehicle) are basically DC Motors (Direct Current Motors) in most cases and the volt range vary from 96 to 192 volts. However AC Motors (Alternate Current Motors) are also used and in this case, the volt range can be anywhere between 240 and 300 volts. The most common electric car motors are the direct current motors because these motors are very easy to install and are usually not expensive as the alternate current motors. Apart from the simple setup, there is one more reason to rely on DC motors.

It is none other than the ability of electric motors to boost its wattage for a fraction of seconds, usually 5 times than its original output. Due to this, DC cars can have better acceleration for a very short span of time and this will help the car to perform better. However, this can not be done for so long as the engine will blowout. However, AC motors are installed in some cars because these engines can allow any industry specified motor to be used in the car which is quite advantageous.

The car's working principle is quite simple:

Drivetrain – In battery-powered cars, the working principle is very easy to understand. The car is driven by a motor (electric motor) which directly takes its energy from the cells. In hybrid cars, there are gasoline powered generators. Hybrid cars have a very sophisticated mechanism, which is not in the scope of this article. Coming back to electric cars, the straightforward mechanism avoid many components in between and it makes these cars more reliable.

Gear Box – Compared to gasoline powered vehicles, EV engines can not be pressured to produce more torque by switching to a lower gear. As we have seen earlier, DC motors can boost the power for a couple of seconds but car manufacturers do not use this option as a technique to boost the power. We can conclude that the gear box in an electric car engine is only to control speed. The working principle is also very different. It uses a resistor and the lower speed is achieved by putting higher resistance on engine.

Cells – Earlier, the car battery was the largest downside of electric cars because on average, these batteries weight around 500 to 1,000 pounds. These days, there is a sophisticated technology in branded cars but that technology does not come at a very reasonable price. Even the smallest cars with Li-ion battery setup will cost you a lot as the battery pack is quite expensive.

These are the major features of EV engines. Earlier, electric car batteries were identical to the car batteries (even today, many aftermarket electric car kits use the same) but these batteries will not last longer. The gel electrolyte based cells are expensive but long lasting too. If you want a reliable motor and battery setup for your investment, it is a good idea to stick to the latter.

Auto Insurance – A Necessity for Car Owners

When you buy or acquire a car, it is recommended to have auto insurance for your protections. Although some states mandate car insurance for car owners, many cars owners still defy this notification of getting insurance for their car for the plain reason that they can get away without having one.

Auto insurance is your primary financial protection when something happens to your car in the event of traffic collisions. Most of these auto insurance companies cover the insured party, the insured vehicle, the third parties and third party such as theft and fire. Although there are policies that only cover the specified circumstances in which the car is insured independently such as against theft, physical and fire damage.

If you are getting insurance for your car, it is best to have a full coverage car insurance to lessen your burdens in the event your car is involved in a road mishap. This gives you more flexibility in making claims and most car insurance companies offer incentives and when calculated in terms of scopes of coverage, you definitely save more than paying lower insurance premiums for separate insurance policies. A full coverage insurance does not only protect you in one separate circumstance but to all that may raise in the event your car is involved in any cases such as theft, fire and damages outside collision.

Age is considered as one risk that affects the amount of premiums in car insurance. Auto insurance for senior citizens has lower premiums because they are considered to have less divided drives compared against those of teenagers and adults. Veterans fall under this category risk because they are often older than 55 years old and may find discounts when they scout for insurance for their car. Auto insurance for veterans has lower premiums because it is assumed that veterans have lower accident risks compared to regular car owners. Veterans are presumed to be law-abiding, low drivers and have good payment standing because of their regular retirement and pension pay.

Auto Insurance Shopping For a New Car

The amount you pay for vehicle insurance can depend very much on several factors. The kind of vehicle you own, the level of your driving skills and traffic record as well as the auto insurance company you choose to get your insurance policy from. Here are some tips to help you get that cheap car insurance.

Get quotes:

You should get an auto insurance quote from at least 3 different companies. You can either call them directly by phone or get the information online. The insurance department web site in your state can also help you get and compare vehicle insurance quotes.

Ask the cost of the insurance before you buy the car:

Your insurance policy will typically be based on the sales price of the car, repairs and maintenance cost, safety of the vehicle and risk of theft. Most auto insurance providers routinely offer lower rates if the vehicle has features that can help reduce the probability of meeting accidents or thefts. These features will usually include but not limited to anti-lock brake systems, seat belts, air bags, daytime running lights as well as anti-theft gadgets.

You might have to think twice if the car you like to buy is among those that are usually targeted by thieves. The insurance premiums for such vehicles are normally higher. The National Insurance Crime Bureau has on its web sites the list and kinds vehicles that are most likely to be stolen by thieves. You could check it out to see if your car is among them.

Higher deductibles for your auto insurance:

Generally, a deductible is an amount that you have to personally shell out before the money in your auto insurance policy is released. A $ 1,000 deductible can maybe save you at least 40% off of you auto insurance premium. This will greatly reduced your insurance cost substantially. The disadvantage of this scheme is that should an accident happen you might end up paying a lot more than what you could have saved.

Getting all your insurance from one provider:

If you are already a policy holder with an insurance provider, get a quote from them first. Insurance companies usually give discounts to clients who have more than two insurance policies with them. Some providers would even lower the insurance premium for clients who have been doing business with them for a long time. However, you should still make inquiries to other insurance companies and see what they can offer you.

Diesel Cars for United States Auto Market

We are just into the fifth month of the year and car manufacturers are already promoting their 2008 model year vehicles. The 2008 Ford Escape and its hybrid version have already been released and so are other auto models from different car manufacturers.

In the United States, as prices of gasoline increases, hybrid cars have been gaining popularity. For the 2008 model year, it is expected that car manufacturers will be introducing more hybrid vehicles as the demand for this type of automobiles increases. Another technology though is set to be unleashed into the United States and Canadian auto markets in the form of clean diesel engines. Next year, it is expected that European and Japanese car manufacturers will be introducing diesel cars in the said auto markets. In Europe, the use of diesel engines is already popular, thanks to companies like Volkswagen and Mercedes Benz. The success of diesel engines in the region is expected to give diesel engines a better reputation in the United States.

For years after the 1970s and 80s decades, Americans have been staying away from diesel engines. It can be remembered that this engine technology was introduced in the 1970s in the United States. Unfortunately, the diesel engines of old are known for their black soot emissions and in some cases poor reliability. Newer diesel engines though have overcome this problem with the use of better emission filter technology.

The Ford Super Duty already available in the market boasts of having a powerful diesel engine with emission similar to that of a gasoline engine. The Super Duty is one of the vehicles that can promote the use of cleaner diesel engines. The problems encountered in the use of bio-ethanol is also another reason that will help popularize the use of diesel cars.

Flex-fuel vehicles in the United States which are designed to run on a combination of gasoline and bio-ethanol is recently being criticized due to the lack of fuel refilling stations offering E85 – the alternative fuel composed of 15 percent gasoline and 85 percent bio- ethanol. In a recent study, it was found out that 99 percent of flex-fuel vehicles in the United States are actually using conventional gasoline thebyby beating the purpose of these provided to be environment friendly vehicles.

Already, European car manufacturers have expressed their intentions to release diesel vehicles in the United States next year. The German Volkswagen has been selling diesel-powered vehicles in the US for decades and at present, they will upgrade their engines by using a cleaner technology dubbed as the Blue Motion. The first Volkswagen auto model which will use the clean diesel technology is the Jetta.

Another German car manufacturer which will introduce diesel-powered vehicles in the US next year is Mercedes Benz. Sport utility vehicles or SUVs, known as the favorite of American car buyers, will be what Mercedes Benz will be equipping with their clean diesel engines. Already announced to be released in the United States auto market are diesel versions of the M-Class, R-Class, and the GL-Class. These vehicles will be equipped with clean diesel engines and other soot cleaning technologies from the engine to their Mercedes Benz mufflers and out the exhaust pipe. Aside from these European carmakers a Japanese company has expressed their intention to introduce a diesel car in the US

Nissan, the third largest Japanese car manufacturer announced that they will be producing a diesel-powered Maxima sedan in the near future.

One problem in the way of the promotion of use of diesel engines in the United States is the availability of diesel fuel. Not more than 50 percent of all refueling stations in the country are offering diesel engines. Fortunately though, the oil industry is clearly supporting the use of diesel-powered vehicles. The Marathon Petroleum Company recently earmarked $ 3.2 billion for the expansion of their refineries that is expected to increase the availability of diesel fuel in refilling stations across the United States.

Another problem faced by diesel powered-vehicles in the country is consumer acceptance. Although new technologies have made diesel engines cleaner than their ancestors, its reputation has been tarnished heavily. Gasoline-electric hybrid vehicles are also popular among car buyers and it would be something that diesel cars must contend with. Furthermore, the use of advanced emission cleaning technology gives these diesel engines a price almost equal to that of hybrid vehicles. In the end, it would be a matter of preference that will spell the success or lack of it for diesel-powered vehicles.

Mobile App Development Trends to Watch Out for in 2018

Staying unique and relevant in this competitive mobile app marketplace can be a challenge because of the deluge of new apps that flood the app stores every single day. Google Play Store pegs the number of apps it had in at the end of 2017 at 3.5 million while the Apple Store came in second at 2.1 million. Apps have become a billion-dollar industry generating revenues for businesses big and small and there have been many stories of successful enterprises that started from a great app. 2018 has seen the evolution of app development go into new frontiers such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT).

The giants of the tech industry have been focusing on these concepts among other things in their annual developer conferences. Microsoft started with their Build 2018 developer conference in Seattle and Google just kicked off their annual Google I/O 2018 conference with both companies emphasizing the bigger roles of AI and IoT in their respective ecosystems. Here are a few other things that have been announced that set the trend for app development in 2018 and beyond.

Smarter Assistants

Developments in AI has paved the way for even smarter voice assistants. It has enhanced mobile apps like recommendation engines, behavioural targeting, and a more personalized social experience.

Google Assistant has now developed into a more advanced AI that can understand context on many levels and have a more human-like conversation with the user. It can now call companies that do not have an online presence and converse with their representatives on behalf of the user to book a reservation or inquire about opening hours on holidays.

Cloud Computing

The introduction of cloud computing has expanded the capabilities of apps by enhancing their storage or computing potential and are no longer tied to the limitations of a smartphone. Apps like Dropbox have been around for many years providing cloud storage for both individuals and businesses alike and adding extra features like encryption and file or folder sharing.

Mobile & Desktop Synchronization

Mobile apps are supposed to replace desktop apps but sometimes the best solution is a better integration between apps and desktop operating systems. Windows 10 has announced Timeline which aims to communicate effortlessly with iOS and Android phones to give you a more seamless experience when switching from phone to desktop and vice versa. It allows you to send SMS or email and browse a shared webpage from within Windows 10.

Internet-of-Things

Internet-Of-Things (IoT) is a term that describes a system of devices that is connected to the cloud to give apps the ability to perform remote operations, automation, and monitoring. There have been many IoT products that were introduced by a variety of manufacturers including connected cameras and smart appliances.

Blockchain

The rise in popularity of bitcoin has shed light on the importance of blockchain technology, which is the backbone of cryptocurrency. Blockchain is an open, electronic ledger that is continually updated and shared with the internet community. It shows all transactions that occur with cryptocurrencies like bitcoin so that there is a public record of its movement. Its open nature ensures security from fraud and makes it an attractive option for mobile banking and e-commerce app solutions.
