Tips on How to Sell Used Cars

Due to the troubled economic climate, most people have made efforts to cut down on their personal expenses. This has led to more people shopping for better deals. One area that has seen an increase in business is the sale of used cars. When selling a used car, one has to make sure that it will be attractive to potential buyers and that it will sell close to its retail value. There are a number of things you have to do to show buyers that your used car is a worthwhile investment.

Below are a number of tips on how to sell used cars:

1. First impressions will either result in a sale or turn potential buyers away. It is important that you prepare to sell your used car. You need to make it look as good as new. Check the exterior all over for scratches, dents, rust, and chipped paint. Fix and paint any bad spots. Use a scratch remover for small scratches. Scratches can be sanded and have a coat of paint applied. As well, check your tires to see if the treads are worn and if they are leaking air. You should replace any worn tires. Once you have repaired any damage, thoroughly wash the exterior and wax it.

2. Prepare the interior of the car. Check the upholstery for any tears and repair them. Get rid of any garbage. Vacuum the inside of the car, including the air vents and crevices. Use a mild cleaning agent to clean the interior. Make sure you clean any stains and check the floors to see if there are any holes that need to be filled.

3. Check for any missing or broken parts such as the rearview mirror, stereo knobs, lights, windshield wipers, ashtrays trim, broken seatbelts…etc. Repair or replace items that are broken or missing.

4. Take your car for a test drive. Listen for any unusual sounds such as a loud muffler, transmission jumping gears, or squeaky breaks. If you hear anything, get a mechanic to exam the car. As well, look under the car for any unusual leaks. Check under the hood for any problems such as a corroded battery. Make sure all of the fluids are full.

5. When determining the price of the car, check to see what the most popular cars are. As well, note the mileage of the car. A car with high mileage will sell for less. Check the Kelly Blue Book to determine the value of the car so you are offering a fair price. There are also a variety of online car sites where you can compare prices of cars. You can also do this online by comparing vehicles at a variety of car websites. The price you choose should reflect the history of its reliability, the make/model/year, condition of the car, and the mileage.

6. Make sure you have all of the important documents such as the car’s registration, title to the car, record of maintenance, inspection papers, warranties, and record of replacement parts. You can also obtain a CARFAX Vehicle History Reports to show potential buyers that you are not hiding anything.

Perception is everything when selling a used car. It is important to take the time to make the car look as good as new and be honest with potential buyers. It will greatly increase the likelihood that you get the price you want for the used car.

Car Title Loans in Los Angeles

There are usually difficult days when you would be down financially and need quick cash to bail yourself out. In many cases, having poor credit makes the condition worse as you cannot turn to your banks for assistance. In such hopeless circumstances, one of the best options you explore is getting auto title loans.

How do Car Title Loans in Los Angeles work?

Foremost, you should understand that car title loans in Los Angeles offer you an opportunity to obtain financial assistance without the need for you to give out any of your properties. Notably, when you are getting a loan from most financial institutions, you are often required to use any of your valuable properties as collateral which will be surrendered to the institution. However, car title loans in Los Angeles are different because you will only have to use your vehicle as collateral without having to surrender it.

Before the lender will accept to give you the loan, there are a few steps to be taken to protect the interest of both the lender and the borrower. The lender will first confirm whether you are the owner of the car or not and also find out if you have made full payment for the car. If you are not the owner of the car or you are yet to complete the car payment, you will be denied a loan.

Once you have been confirmed as the legitimate owner of the car, your car will be valued to determine the amount of money that can be loaned to you. Furthermore, your ability to pay the loan back in installment monthly will be also ascertained. You will also be required to submit proof of insurance and a photo ID during application for the loan.

Afterward, the lender will be added as the lien holder on the car title and this will remain so until the loan has been paid off completely. The loan can be thousands of dollars that can be repaid over a period of 12 to 36 months. Once you have paid off the loan, a new car title will be issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) without the lender’s name.

Benefits of Car Title Loans

The most prominent benefit of obtaining pink slip loans in Los Angeles is that the lender will not take your car away from you. The vehicle will still be in your possession and can be used whenever you want.

Also, obtaining auto equity loans in Los Angeles does not involve rigorous or time-taking processes. Therefore, your car title loans can be approved in just a few days after application.

What to do when applying for a car title loan

When applying for an auto title loan in Los Angeles, you should take your time to understand the terms of the loan. Credible lenders should be able to provide you written terms for proper review. Some of the things you need to pay attention to when reviewing the terms include finance charge, interest rate, lien fees, late fees, length of the loan, loan origination fees, and processing fees.

One of the best pink slip loan providers in Los Angeles is Car Title Loans California.

In a nutshell, whenever you are in need of car title loans in Los Angeles, you must understand that dubious lenders may want to prey on your circumstances; therefore, be careful.

Electric Vehicles

Are we ready for “Electric Vehicles and lithium ion batteries” Tired of swiping your debit card or even worse your credit card into the machine to pump fuel ? Tired of dishing out your hard earned cash to the oil companies.

Ever thought that there has to be a better way?

The future will bring about change. Is America ready for a change? The answer as it stands right now is “maybe?” The reality is that we are slowly moving toward better and efficient vehicles. Grasping new driving concepts like the “Hybrid Vehicles” , or cleaner burning diesel engines. These new concepts are beginning to be accepted and are more common place as we see them driving on our streets and highways. As we move into the next decade will consumers start to entertain further thoughts of what new found technology will bring? Will they look into electric vehicles that may require a totally different concept?

The reality is not really. Consumers will not be ready to jump into something radically new. We have all seen those “futuristic vehicles” that look like they are ready to fly us away to distance galaxies. However we are not ready to run right out and by one or place our families into something like that. What we are ready for is making the jump into something that looks and feels normal. We all want to adapt to a lighter environmental impact on fuel emissions and want better fuel economy . However breaking in new technology requires sizable funding for research and develop and proper advertisement.

There are many advantages of owning an electric vehicle over a combustion engine.

Electricity is far cheaper then fuel. Projections state that you will pay @$1.00 in electricity to every $4.00 in gasoline.

The second factor is that you wont create any pollution no more harmful emissions.

You wont have to maintain the engine as you would a combustion engine.

No need for oil changes, or emission checks.

Convenience of being able to refuel at home.

One final point is that you will never have to go to a gas station again.

An electric vehicle or “EV” is powered by an electric motor instead of a combustion engine. The EV, gets its power from a controller, which regulates the amount of power. The more you press on the accelerator the more power comes from thecontroller.

The electric vehicle uses power stored in its rechargeable batteries. The batteries are charged by ordinary electricity. New advancement in batteries such as the “lithium ion batteries give the must efficiency and last the longest. Projections are now given that some of these newer vehicles maybeable to run run as far as 125 miles or better.

There are many automobile makers now that are developing the new “EV’s”

Telsa motors has developed a car named the “Telsa Roadster” the manufacturer states that this vehicle can do 0 – 60 mph in 3.7 seconds. Very impressive!!!!

General Motors is due to bring out the new “Volt” sometime in 2010.

Mitsubishi is due to bring out its new “i-MiEV” release will be in Japan.

Subaru will release the new “Stella” EV sometime in late 2009 or early 2010.

Ford Motor company is coming out with several new models.

China has plans to sell “plug-in-electric-cars” in the United States Market as early as next year. The vehicle will be called the “EV” named “E6” will be a five passenger car that can be fully charged in seven to ten hours when plugged into a 110 volt plug.

There website also says that there will be four different types of motors available. With an upgrade of utilizing two electric motors for more power and better accelerations.

Investors and governments will have to evaluate and consider carefully all the new and alternative types of fuels.

New forms of info structures will have to be developed. New ways to approach driving. Will we be prepared to drive a vehicle around for a day then park it in the garage and recharge it overnight? Most people drive there vehicles back and forth to work with an occasional errand after work. In reality they may drive less then 50 miles, so the concept of an electric vehicle will work. Traveling further distances or cross country will require sweeping changes as will need to design new and proper ways for refueling.

Lastly the twenty first century will be remembered as a turning point in the new era of different types of vehicles.

As battery technologies improves proportionality with advancements of different composites we will soon be seeing more useful and electrifying electric vehicles are you ready for it?

Keep “Thinking Green” my friends.

Guide to Car Rental Companies in Costa Rica

"My time's limited … how do I choose?"

Car rental is a hot topic for vacationers headed to Costa Rica. Recent research conducted by the Costa Rican Institute of Tourism (ICT) indicates that, after accommodations, renting a car is the largest expense, averaging $ 702 for an eleven-day vacation.

The Internet is buzzing with negative reviews discussing overcharging, poor customer service and mechanical breakdowns. You might have even written one yourself!

A typical midsize (3 – 4 adults) 4X4 rental runs between $ 58 and $ 65 daily with third party insurance and rates can vary as much as 20 percent among car rental companies, so reading a quick review once you calculate the savings .

So the question is; which rental company offers the best balance of fair price, capable customer service and reliable vehicles? I've researched it all for you, so keep reading!

Disclosures: This research was conducted in May – July 2013. The following companies were selected because they are the most widely used in Costa Rica. Some are local companies; others are international franchises of recognized brand names. Comparisons include: customer service, pricing and the reservation process. The companies are listed alphabetically and not based on personal or online preferences.
Consider this information before renting:

Insurance

One of the largest causes for complaints is from the stack of unforeseen charges presented to the renter once standing at the rental company's counter. Vacationers are typically tired after a long flight and then are confused by costs that were not anticipated, explained or substanteted.

Topping the list of grievances is the non-disclosure of fees associated with the mandatory third-party insurance at the time the reservation is made.

According to Costa Rican law, every driver is required to carry liability coverage to insure against injuries to third parties. Car rental companies generally refrain from disclosing the cost of this policy in the quoted rental rate to appear more competitive. Mandatory third-party insurance can sometimes be as much as double the vehicle's rental cost. The only guarantee against insurance confusion is to inquire if your estimate includes the third party insurance and insurer on a written quotation.

Cost of Mandatory Insurance (also called Third Party or SLI)

Expect to pay between $ 12 and $ 15 daily for this insurance, depending on the make and model of the rented vehicle and the rental car agency. This is a legal condition of your rental agreement and is generally not covered by credit cards and can not be waived. It's a fact of renting a car in Costa Rica.

Collision Damage Waiver (CDW)

As the name suggests, this is not insurance, but a waiver, which relieves the renter from any liability for damage to the rental car after the deductible is paid (usually from $ 750 to $ 1,500). Some agencies require renters to purchase their CDW policy; theby negating any credit card program. For an additional fee, many agencies do offer a zero liability option where the renter will be freed from paying for any damage to the car. Some companies may put pressure upon renters to purchase the zero liability coverage; however, it is entirely optional, unless it is in the fine print of their rental agreement.

Credit card insurance programs may cover the CDW for a rental vehicle. Check with your chosen rental car company to find which proof of insurance is needed and then request that from your credit card company prior to arriving. If you use your credit card's CDW policy, expect to pay a higher deposit on the vehicle; around $ 1,500 to $ 2000 is common. The higher deposit ensures that the credit card holder has sufficient financial reserves to cover damages if needed. It is important to consider that if using CDW coverage provided by a credit card (in lieu of the rent a car operator), all damages will be billed to the renter's credit card. The credit card company will then refund the card holder for damages.

More Insurance

Tires and windshields are rarely included in insurance policies, although additional policies may be taken out for covering these frequently damaged items. Neither the interior nor the underneath of the vehicle may be covered. Always read the fine print.

Standard Procedure

Your credit card will be charged, or a 'hold' placed, for the rental vehicle during the time of the rental agreement; ie from picking up the rental until you return it. Debit cards are generally not acceptable.

Additional Charges

Most companies have surcharges for additional drivers, car seats / boosters, cell phones, coolers, GPS and / or roof racks. The costs vary from company to company, but since these extras are billed at a daily rate, it is worth checking the total cost – additional options can add up very quickly! A GPS …

How to Manage a Used Car Purchase

Whether to buy a new or used car can be a very hard decision as there are many factors to consider such as the price, your budget, your required specifications of the car and your personal taste.

Find good cheap cars
Searching for reliable cheap used cars can be a daunting process. But if you search using the internet then you will save yourself time and effort as now most of the car selling agents and auto auctions are listed online so you can get a lists of vehicles and sellers that you can deal with.

Narrow your choices
When choosing the best car then you need to know what your requirements are. Do you need it for your spouse to pick kids from school? Or do you want it for a couple of long trips a year? Or are you one of those who consider their car as a home? Each of these scenarios requires a different car so narrow your choices and do not base decisions just on price. After you decide to buy a particular model or two, start physically inspecting used cars.

How to get the real price for used cars?
Finding the real price for a used car is very easy using sources such as Kellys Blue Book. You will enter the make and model of your chosen car then you will be prompted to enter the mileage and the transmission then you will get your car price indicator.

Of course you should keep in mind that just because a vehicle is cheap does not mean that it is not a good car, and expensive cars do not necessarily mean that the car is in good condition. If you intend to buy a car and you found that the price is just below average then check the car registration and get a Carfax vehicle report.

If the seller cays something like "I just bought that car two months ago and I decided to sell it again" then this should trigger some alerts in your mind as there could be reasons why they are selling so soon. Maybe the vehicle has been in an accident, or maybe there are mechanical problems and the seller is trying to cut their losses. As always before buying a used car you should thoroughly inspect it. The best recommendation is to use a qualified mechanic. That way you will know exactly what you are buying and what it is worth.

Should I get a car and make it my next project
Taking a car and restore it to its original condition is not for everyone, although many people have a project car. But you must ask yourself if you have the skills and experience needed to do the job otherwise it could turn out to be an expensive exercise.

Types of Specialty Vehicle Commercial Auto and Truck Insurance Policies

When you’re dealing with commercial auto and truck insurance policies, you may think that most vehicles simply fit into a broad umbrella classification. For instance, if you’re operating any kind of truck, then you need commercial truck insurance, and it’s that simple and straightforward. Except that’s not really the case. Here, we’ll go over some of the very specific types of commercial vehicle insurance policies which are out there.

All types of specialty vehicles and trucks have their own types of insurance policies. This makes sense, as different vehicles are used in different ways. They face different risks, perform different tasks or services, and operate in different industries. That’s why there’s really no such thing as a generic commercial truck insurance policy, but instead, dozens of different types of specialty coverage plans.

So what are some of the types of specialty truck insurance to be familiar with? Staring with big rig or 18 wheeler trucks, different applications such as general freight, long haul, and commercial movers have different policies, as do owner operators.

Big rig trucks can also be specialized themselves, for instance, if they’re refrigerated trucks, or are involved with hazmat transportation. Owners of trucking fleets with many different drivers and perhaps types of vehicles will also find a different coverage requirement than a single person with a single truck.

From there, the world of specialty commercial auto insurance really gets broad and diverse. For example, food delivery trucks, food trucks and ice cream trucks. Then you have limousines, and charter buses or vans, along with taxi cabs, and ridesharing vehicles, such as Uber. Another classification are the companies operating either emergency medical transportation, or non-emergency medical transportation.

Specialty trucks also include specific vehicle classifications such as dump trucks, tow trucks, logging trucks, automobile haulers, waste haulers, wreckers, and on down the line. Truly, it’s a diverse field and this hasn’t even covered everything.

Don’t forget about pickup trucks, vans and regular automobiles. With regular cars, if you’re a business and using that car for any kind of even mundane business function, you may not have realized it, but you need commercial auto coverage beyond your personal policy or else you won’t be protected.

The point is, you need a specific policy that matches that unique type of vehicle and whatever function you’re performing as you operate it. Be sure to consult with an experienced insurance professional who can guide you through this process, and help you obtain the right policy for any specific need or circumstance.

Awesome Tips on How to Find the Cheapest Car Rental

With the emergence of the internet and the multitude of rental cars available both online and offline, you won’t have a hard time looking for the cheapest rental car. Although some people find it a bit puzzling because of the many choices available, if you exert a little time and effort, you will find the cheapest rental car that’s perfect for your need and your budget. As long as you know where to look, then you’re pretty much covered.

The internet has made it easy for most customers to look for the cheapest car rental. Most car rental websites are complete with all the information you need. Travel websites also include car rental information in their travel packages so customers could easily compare prices and avail of their choice.

You have to compare and contrast the prices of different car rental companies to find out what is the cheapest one around. But there’s another way for you to save more money when getting a car rental. You have to know how long you will need to use a car rental. If you need the car for a week or so, it’s better to rent one from a local car rental company because they are usually priced a little bit lower than those from major companies.

If you need a car for only a few days, you will find the cheapest rental car from national rental car companies. You can even make it a lot cheaper by checking your frequent flyer miles and credit card programs. They usually exchange your points for big discounts or free rental car services. This way, you also get to avoid the exorbitant drop-off fees if you’re availing of one-way rentals, plus airport surcharges, local taxes, and gasoline fees.

Insurance fees make rental cars more expensive. Check with your credit card company or car insurance if you are already covered with car rental insurance, particularly insurance for collision damage. The answer is most likely yes. Then, you wouldn’t have to pay for high insurance fees like collision damage waiver and loss damage waiver when renting cars.

Problems always arise in any business transaction when a customer seems to be paying for fees that were unknown to him before. These are the hidden fees written on fine print. So you have to read the entire terms and conditions to know if you are getting what you are paying for, and if you won’t have to pay for any more extra fees afterwards. There are restrictions and penalties and you have to know what these are. Otherwise, you might end up paying more than you’re willing to spend.

All this information should be able to help you. All you have to do is spend a little time going over all the information in rental car websites and apply the tips found here. Happy renting and travel safely!

Car Insurance – How To Get The Best Deal

Policy holders generally seem unaware, or uncaring, that they are probably paying more than they need to for their car insurance. While most vehicle owners would tend to agree on the need to look for the cheapest possible car insurance – they would also see the need to ensure, where at all possible, that they receive the cover they are paying for and the service is at the correct level.

You should never pay for things you do not need. And it's just the same with Car Insurance. It's a real waste of hard earned money to pay for items of cover that are just not needed.

For instance, lets say your car is old and when you get a quote for car insurance you find that the premium you have to pay is more than ten percent of your cars value. This is a good indicator that there is no reason to have comprehensive coverage in your car insurance.
But why should that be?

The answer is simple. Comprehensive coverage reimburses you in case of any damage to your car that is not a result of a collision with another car including, theft, flooding and fire. If your car is not of high value there is no reason to have this coverage.
But what about car theft?

The best way to prevent theft is the old way – installing anti theft devices. These are significantly cheaper than comprehensive car insurance and will probably last longer than your car!
As an added bonus, your insurance company will charge you a lesser premium because their statistics tell them these devices will help prevent theft.

But always remember that the insurance industry is constantly changing, like most others, so you must make sure you are updated on anything new that may affect your cover or your premium.
With that in mind you should make a point of going online every few months and complete a car insurance quote.

You may be surprised at what you find. Compare prices and you'll probably find it's easy to get cheaper car insurance.

You must always make sure that the cover you are being quoted on is right for you. Always enter accurate information, but do not be afraid to, for example, change from male main driver to female main driver, if that's appropriate in your circumstances. If this can be done it could save a significant amount.

Raising deductibles from, say, $ 250 to $ 500 often results in a saving of ten percent.

This article outlines just a few of the strategies you could adopt which would make a difference to the cost of your car insurance.

Scooters For Sale – Used Mobility Scooters

Electric mobility scooters were generally associated with the old and the disabled, that is, with men and women who have problems with moving around from one place to another. However, with the passage of changing time, these electric mobility scooters are gaining popularity. This popularity has gained so much power that electric mobility scooters are now being resold once the purpose to the actual customer gets over. This was not the case, even a few years back. This is because electric mobility scooters were bought only by those individuals who were advised to do so under the prescription of the doctor. At the present age, those people who are willing to buy these scooters without the prescription of the doctor can do so with the purchase of used mobility scooters.

However, there are a number of features in the used scooters that must need to be checked before purchasing it from the earlier user. Although these scooters work on batteries that are rechargeable, one should remember that such batteries also have limited life span and can not work beyond a certain period of time. It might happen that the person buying the used mobility scooter has to install a new battery in order to use the scooter to his maximum benefit. The points of charging and the motors are other essential features that need to be thoroughly checked before one makes the purchase of the used mobility scooter.

The parts in the scooters that under maximum movements are the teller, the seat and the wheel axles. These parts should also be assessed with care and caution. The seats must be checked for its capacity of swiveling. The seats are cushioned ones and possess the capacity of swiveling from 90 degrees to 360 degrees under proper working conditions. This capacity to swivel needs to be checked properly.Even the toller of the scooter demands attention. Faulty tiller might lead to the loss of the maneuvering capacity of the scooter.

It is generally believed that when one buys these scooter, the person does not sell it as it becomes a vital part of one's convenient and comfortable life. However, there are cases when a user might want to sell his / her scooter in order to buy a new, developed model with better technology and facilities. The amount of price that used scooters can come for is totally depended on the person who is selling the scooter. The price will obviously be proportionate to the condition of the used vehicle along with the number of operational features that it contains, the model number, the years for which it has been used. It is observed that the price range of a used mobility scooter varies from $ 100 to $ 500.

It is of utmost necessity for the new buyer to know about the details of the used scooter as it has been handled in the hands of the original customer, or the present seller. This will help the buyer not fall into a drain where he / she lands up with only an electric model that is of little or no function at all.

Auto Repair Service – 30k, 60k, 90k, Automobile Dealership Rip-Offs

I had a friend call me recently because he brought his 2007 Nissan in for a 90k auto service (90,000 mile service). Most of these services are the biggest scams I have ever been apart of (yeah sorry). As a flat rate mechanic I absolutely loved them (back in the day). My friend paid through the nose for crap, he knew it after wards, and at least declined the BS up-sells.

Thirty thousand mile services are a glorified oil change with a tire rotation. I used to get paid 3 or 4 hours to do a 30k service (Done in 1 hr tops). Oh, you sure inspect a lot of stuff, stuff that does not need inspecting. The original 30k’s, before we had 100,000 mile fluids and spark plugs, you actually had to do some work.

Here’s the deal! You go in for an oil change every 3000 miles, and a oil change and tire rotation every 6000 miles or so. If you need repair work, like brakes or front end work, they will notice. They crawl all over your car looking for an up-sell, you don’t have to pay them for these routine inspections, that’s all these services are, routine inspections. Most shops give you free 16 point inspections for free with an oil change.

I recommend getting your oil changed and tire rotations by “certified mechanics”, not jiffy this, or sooner that. whether in a dealership or private auto repair facility they have “guys”, they give this easy work to. Don’t let sub par mechanics work on your car. The labor rate does not change depending on who’s working on your car, so ask for a certified mechanic (your already paying for him).

Donating Cars in California

Have you recently purchased a new car and are having problems with your old one? You don’t know where to park them? Well, one good way of disposing these old vehicles is to donate them. The best place for car donation is the state of California.

Car donation in California is a famous alternative for those who have old vehicles. Car owners can donate their vehicles including vans, cars, boats and other types of vehicles to a charity of their choice. This is one good way of getting rid of an old useless vehicle. In addition, you are able to help those who are in need without bothering yourself about what to do with that car.

The vehicle does not need to be in very good condition to be donated. In fact, broken down cars may also be donated. These centers would tow the broken cars for free. They will then fix these and auction them for a profit. The money earned from the auction will be given to the charity of your own choice.

Another way of donating automobile is by giving it to a poor family. According to the research done by Surface Transportation Policy Project (STPP), a non-profit agency, 20 percent of the American poor families can not buy a car. They are spending 40.2 percent of their budget with transportation expenses. STPP conducts a study about transportation alternative choices of Americans.

There are advantages in donating your ride in California. In other states, you are required to have the original title in order to donate. This is not the case here. In fact, as long as you are the legal owner of the car, you can still donate. The Center for Car Donations would provide you with a duplicate title form to be signed. On the other hand, car donors are entitled to a tax deduction. This is in accordance with the new tax law of 2005. In some cases, you are given a free vacation for your act of charity.

Another benefit of donating car in California is the free towing services offered. You’re not required to bring the car to the Center for Car Donations. They are ready to pick it up especially if it is not in good running condition anywhere within the state.

You simply follow steps in giving out your car. First, prepare the vehicle. While it is not necessary for the car to be in good running condition, it would still be good if you make sure that it is presentable enough. Simply clean it and make sure you have nothing of your personal belongings left inside.

You also need to prepare all the important documents like registration and insurance. If you don’t have the title, the Center for Car donation would provide you with a duplicate title form. After gathering all the documents to be transferred, make an online search for car donation companies that would facilitate your car donation. Make sure that the company is valid before submitting all the documents. This would prevent you from falling victim of scams.

When the car is picked up, the company would give you a tax form. This is important for you to avail of tax deduction. Make sure to file a notice of release of liability to a local Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV). Ask the people who picked up your car on how to fill out the form. Lastly, inform your insurance company that you donated your car to charity. Do this on the day you release your car. This is important for them so they can discontinue the insurance coverage.

Auto Repair Shops Adopt Environmentally Responsible Practices

It's taken a long time to realize that some of the things that we humans did in the past are not the best practices for a healthy environment. Most everyone is now aware that it is important to include environmentally friendly practices in all that we do. This is as true for auto repair shops as it is for our households.

How can an auto repair shop reduce the negative impact on the environment?

Here are some good practices that an auto shop can adopt:

Recycle
Recycling antifreeze, oils, lubricants, air conditioning refrigerant, tires, oil filters are pretty much obvious and often required by law, but what about cardboard, paper, plastics, metal, fluorescent bulbs, glass and other objects so easy to just dump into the garbage bin? It takes a bit of time to sort everything, but if you have a system set up, then it only takes a few minutes every day.

Return Center
In addition to recycling your own shop use the products, make a return center for items such as used automotive lubricating oils, filters, antifreeze, used plastic oil and antifreeze containers and all types of batteries. In our shop we gladly accept liquids up to 20 Liters maximum, in sealed containers during business hours. It just makes good sense and provides convenience to customer who may otherwise have to go out of their way way to get rid of these items.

Recycled Oil
While we do not dispute the method or intention, we are not convinced it is a viable option for sophisticated modern engines like most cars have today. A better alternative is to have the waste oil removed by a government certified hauler to be consumed as fuel in large industrial plants. This gives the oil a new life and it is re-used in a responsible way.

Good Use of Recycled Products
Where it makes sense to use recycled products we do, for example recycled engine antifreeze and coolants where the process is up to standards of the original equipment manufacturer of the vehicle it is going to be used in. This is about two thirds of the coolant we use.

Automobiles
Let's face it, automobiles are mobile hazardous waste generators, even when they are sitting still. We have not found a way yet to achieve a near zero auto carbon footprint but it is our responsibility to reduce that negative impact as much as possible. That responsibility is shared by the car owner as much as it is by the shop that services that car. A car running in top shape does more than just reduce carbon emissions, a car service shop that adopts environmentally friendly practices contributes to a community's well being.

Auto Suspension Parts: Know Your Vehicle

Imagine that you are traveling in your car and you encounter a large speed breaker in the middle of the route that you have to cross. You feel uncomfortable because you are aware your vehicle has a poor suspension system. However, if you had effective suspension parts installed, there was no need to worry about bumps or other similar hurdles. Suspension parts can help you to cross hurdles on the road smoothly.

Let's check out the different parts of a suspension system.

Control Arm: This is also known as wishbone. The shape of this suspension part is nearly triangular. It resembles 'A', so sometimes it is also referred to as the A-arm. On one side, it is attached to a steering knuckle with a ball joint, and on the other side it is attached to an arm shaft with bushing.

Bushing: A small but important part in the suspension system. Bushing is mostly made of synthetic rubber to separate out its two metal parts. This synthetic rubber helps both metal parts to coordinate smoothly. It also helps the suspension parts to move freely when navigating a large bump, for example. There are polyurethane bushhes also available in the market that are more durable.

Ball Joint: A ball joint is a spherical bearing. Generally, it is used to join the steering knuckles and the control arms. It is a very important part between the steering and suspension, and it is responsible for safe operation. The difference between these and the standard ball joints is that lubricants are not needed for sealed ball joints because they are already lubed, while standard ball joints need regular lubing else they may cause loss control.

Sway Bar: Sway bars are also known as stabilizer bars. A sway bar is used in a vehicle suspension system to reduce jerks caused by irregular road surfaces. It also helps the vehicle to keep a 'grip' on the road so that the driver can steer the vehicle well, even while turning or in the case of poor road surfaces.

Idler Arms & Pitman Arms: Idler and pitman arms depend on the support of steering linkage. An idler arm is fitted to the opposite of pitman arm on the center link. It helps to hold the center link at a proper height by attaching the other end onto the vehicle frame. The Pitman arm helps to steer the wheel because one of its ends is attached to the vehicle's steering gear.

The ones discussed here are only some of the auto suspension parts. There are many more big and small parts within the suspension system. Adjusting sleeves, center links, drag links, strut mounts, swy bar links, tie rod ends, wheel hubs, and other similar parts are also components of auto suspension. Without understanding these parts, you can not fully understand your vehicle suspension system.

5 Reasons Why You Should Motorise Your Garage Roller Door

Wireless technology allows doors to be controlled via key fob, wireless key switch or wireless key fob. Motorized garage doors allow for a rapid entry and exit by use of remote controlled devices. They are also far more secure than a non-motorized garage door. The home or business owner can program the opener to respond to a pre-selected PIN code before the door will open, preventing thieves from unlawfully entering the promises. They also allow owners to sync their systems to other home security systems, so that if a breach does occur, law enforcement officials will be notified immediately. Strongly consider the five aspects that have been highlighted below:

1. Security
Motorized roller doors fit into steel guides that span the height of the door opening. These doors are equipped with dual-lock bars or a comb-locking mechanism. A bottom rail is included to reinvigorate the door against possible intruders. When lowered, the controller provides protection against lifting and drawing in. Security can be further improved by the addition of an alarm.

2. Optional Drive System
This is essentially the mechanism by which the motor opens and closes your door. The two most popular are chain or belt drive systems. Roller Doors open vertically into a compact roll above the opening, taking up minimal space in the garage. They are highly versatile. With many garages being built with segmented, squared or full arch, they are able to fit any type of garage opening. By having them motorized, you are still provided with an option of having a chain or belt driven system. Chain drives use a metal chain to run the door on its track – they're usually the least expensive, and the most rugged, but can also be noisy. Belt drive openings are almost silent, as they run on a rubber belt.

3. Minimum motor power
The power of your motor will depend on the weight of your garage door. Most garage roller doors measure up to 8 'wide and this makes them suitable for a motor rated at about 45kgs only. This means that you do not need needlessly to use a motor with great amounts of power output.

4. Safety Protection System
The greatest question to ask yourself when you install a garage door is, "Could the door hurt someone if they're in the way?" Most automated garage doors have a safety protection system. This means that they will immediately stop if there is an obstacle in the way. A roller door rolls up vertically inside the garage above the opening and does not have an outwing like it's up & over counterpart. This allows you to park right up in front of your door and provides more interior garage space.

5. Feedback System
The automation control is equipped with an LED light to provide system status and maintenance diagnosis. Integrated courtesy light, automatically switches on with garage door operation. Settings are automatically maintained to ensure that the roller garage door rolls up fully and closes perfectly over time, protecting your installation.
