Car Dealer Gifts – Using Gifts To Build Relationships With Your Customers

There is heavy competition out there from other dealers and independent service shops. With all the money dealers spend to attract and keep customers, a gift is a small and very effective investment that speaks directly to your customer base on an individual level that is not easily forgotten or ignored.

Many new car dealerships know that a gift basket or gift to a new buyer makes sense. It’s a pleasant introduction to your company and improves their overall experience. However, there are other opportunities for using gifts to build relationships. Some examples: a service customer who had a bad experience, a sales customer celebrating their yearly purchase anniversary, and your top twenty most loyal owners who spend a lot over a long period of time. The latter are a group that are already spending money at your store. They do not need deep discounts to keep coming back, but they would appreciate and respond well to a small token of your appreciation. The disgruntled service customer is likely to fill out a customer satisfaction survey. Why not surprise and delight with an unexpected gesture of goodwill once their problem is solved? Product problems or mishaps may be beyond your control, but you can fix the relationship. As for the sales customer who already owns the car, keeping that relationship going will increase the likelihood of that customer buying his or her next vehicle from your store. Even a good wholesale parts buyer could be rewarded for coming to the dealership instead of ordering parts online or from the independent down the road.

The gifts you choose don’t have to break the bank to be effective. For a new buyer, an elegantly decorated congratulations gift basket or champagne bucket with champagne glasses and a bottle of sparkling cider, cheese and crackers, and some mouthwatering truffles can be found for between $50-$75 . You could include any promotional items or even a “gift certificate” saying their first oil change is complementary. Here is an opportunity to ensure your client comes back to you for service. Your gift provider can make recommendations to fit both the occasion and your budget. Ribbons can be imprinted with your company name and logo to keep your name in front of the client. Some lower end items might include: chocolate molded to say “thank you from ABC Dealer” or a gourmet cookie or cake tin with your company name and logo on the cover.

A small, local gift company, rather than a large chain or discount store, can serve you better for several reasons:

  • Giving a stale or poorly presented gift will have the opposite effect
  • Better service and face to face meetings as needed
  • Custom gifts and fresh ideas
  • These are creative people who use gifts to market their own business – pick their brains for ideas on how to use themes, tag lines, tie into your advertising, give-aways for local marketing events, or how to use unusual holidays such as Valentine’s Day to say “We love our customers”
  • Unique products created just for you
  • All the extras that make a gift special – hand-tied bows, personalization, beautiful wrapping
  • You’ll save on shipping and delivery costs

Principles of Speech Communication

Speech making is perhaps one of the innate abilities of man, irrespective of one’s citizenry, or ethnic affiliations. Yet many people speak without understanding that it is a special ability without which communication between people and groups would not be possible.

Speech communication differs from normal day to day talking in which one speaks sporadically without considering ethics and skills. However, it is similar to every day communication in that they are both driven by the aim to communicate meaningfully.

Speech making is an organized communication aimed at sharing specific message about a given subject to create impact towards solving human problems.

This article provides guidance in the following areas:

Types of speech

Sages/steps in the speech making process and

Structure of a speech

Types of Speech

The onus remains squarely, on every speech maker to identify the type of speech most suitable to his/her purpose. For emphasis, it should be known that the aim of your delivery should be the sole factor dictating the style/type of speech you should choose to use.

Generally, there are, for conveniences, sake, four basic speech types, viz:

• Argumentative speech

• Persuasive speech

• Educative speech and

• Informative speech.

Argumentative Speech Type

Arguments imply elaborate presentation of all perspectives to an object or a subject of discussion, before settling down for the most applicable option. What comes out of an argument as most acceptable may not necessarily be truer, or better than other options, but the process of arguing makes it best, when compared to the others. This is why one choosing this type must bear in mind that it is his/her approach to it, and the ability to convince that determines the success or failure of the entire process.

While this may be closely related to persuasive essay, the dissimilarity lies in using points to convince at all cost.

To argue therefore, the speech maker needs to clearly and exhaustively raise every point of the issue and state facts about it. And this statement of facts is the “why” of the validity or not of your argument.

Persuasive Speech Type

As the name indicates, this type of speech is meant to stimulate a favourable disposition towards the subject of your concern or to appeal to audience to see it your way and act as you desire.

Companies, individuals and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) that depend on project grants are often required to their proposals in brief, before forums of grant agencies. In doing this, they are expected to give brief, straight-to-point run down of what they propose to do to achieve goal, if given grant. This summary must necessarily include a statement of methodology and justification why it has to be your proposal, and not that of another. You must convince that using so and so method, you will be able to achieve set goals within the specified time, without waste of resources and this, you must do without doubt.

A high point worthy of emphasis is that to persuade, a speech maker must JUSTIFY why you are convinced that your method is most suitable to deliver best result. Your entire exercise will be meaningless if it fails to provide justification.

Also, students defending their research projects/thesis/dissertations ought to bear this in mind, as they will at one time or another, need to persuade their tutors I favour of their work.

Educative Speech Type

Although teaching in a class room situation requires more than speech making skills, it would do you well as a professional teacher, haven undergone training in the profession, to add these to your skills. As one who teaches in a school or a religious organization, one makes speeches often, both officially and otherwise.

Advertising agencies as well make use of this type of speech as product display demonstration to teach prospective consumers of a new product a step – by – step approach to using it.

An educative speech provides a comprehensible how-to-do-it guide to given subjects and must be done carefully to avoid confusing consumers/students/audience/congregation.

Informative Speech Type

The aim of this class of speech is to make known. This may come in presentable form in which the speech maker delivers it to audience or may be a press release. Whichever the case, both the writer and giver of speech must choose words carefully in order not to mislead, as the aim is to give accurate, unmistaken information as at press conference, organizational report forums, annual general meetings, state of the affair reviews etc.

Whether as government official, a politician or celebrity wishing to tell subordinated, colleagues or fans and the mass media something, this type of speech serves you best, as it equally serves the technology company wishing to inform its market of its newest innovation.

Mobile Phone Repair Tips To Help Your Save Money

For many people, getting your phone fixed or repaired is a very costly move. And so, whenever they get a cracked phone’s screen, dropped their phone in the toilet or their battery is no longer working, they usually just opt to buy a new one. However, having your phone fixed or repaired is actually not that costly only if you know the right thing to do.

Consumers have plenty of misconceptions which may either be grounded on some truth or are simply untrue. Specialists in mobile phone repair share some tips below on how to save money for your mobile phone repair.

In most cases, there is still a high chance that your phone can be repaired. So instead of actually buying a new one, just have it checked first so you will know your options. You can actually have your phone fixed. You can buy parts online and watch or read tutorials. But one key thing that you have to understand is that repairing a mobile device requires some technical skills and lots of patience.

Sometimes, it is more cost-effective to bring your device to a trained professional rather than experiment with your device. You can save time, money and effort, and expect better results. Additionally, premium brands have limited one-year warranties. And if your device is accidentally damaged, it is highly likely that the warranty has already been voided. Simply put, if you bring your device to a third party shop, you don’t have to worry about voiding the warranty because it already is.

And compared to service providers who will convince you to buy a new device, third party shops will try to do their best to repair your phone first before recommending to you to buy a new one. So you can really rely on their skills and knowledgeable before you are advised to buy a new mobile phone.

The cost of repairing your phone will depend on where you bring it as well as the damage your phone has. But if you consider the convenience and guaranteed results, in most circumstances, you are paying a small price to give your device a new lease on life. A lot of people underestimate the value of their devices. They forget the fact that when you sign a contract with a carrier, the carrier subsidizes the device. So if you think that phone repair cost is too pricey, know the real value of your phone first.

Lastly, there are some third party repair shops which have earned dubious reputations, however, there are also mobile repair shops, majority of them actually, are honest and provide quality service to their customers.

How to Clean Upholstery in Your Vehicle

When you look at your older car’s interior, it more than likely does not look as good as it did the day you bought it. It is not at all uncommon for the interior to get soiled over the years with normal use. Learning how to clean upholstery yourself is not all that difficult and can save you some money.

These upholstery cleaning tips are for cloth interiors only and not leather. We use shampoo to clean cloth interior. We have options when it comes to the cleaning solution we use. You can buy super clean or purple power degreaser at any local auto parts house. This works really well on carpet and cloth seats for removing stains. You can also use dawn dish washing liquid which we all know is great at fighting grease. Find a five gallon bucket or anything that will hold two or three gallons of water. Fill the bucket with water and add just a little of the cleaner, if using purple cleaner just add a few capfuls until the water slightly changes color. With dish soap maybe a tablespoon or so. We do not want a lot of foam and soap we have to get out of the cloth. It is always a good idea to test a little spot in an inconspicuous area before we start. Just use a white cloth and wet with cleaner and rub a little in to see if the color is rubbing off on your towel. If so stop now and call a professional for advice on cleaning this type of material.

Items needed to shampoo your cars interior yourself are a wet/dry vac, a scrub brush, and a few towels. Just do small areas at a time to get the best results, except for the seats, wet the entire seat to ensure there is no streaking. Then you can work smaller areas of the seat after it is all wet with shampoo. Use a hand towel to wet it down with shampoo, then scrub gently with a brush and vacuum it really well to remove as much water as possible. You can repeat wetting bad areas and vacuuming it out until you see no more dirt coming up. When you have it vacuumed as good as possible use a dry towel to rub the entire seat down which removes more dirt and more water to help dry times. We do the same process with each seat and the carpet.

Drying the interior as quickly as possible is essential when you are all done shampooing. If not dried in a reasonable time it will get musty, similar to leaving wet clothes in the washer too long. If it is sunny out leave the windows down and make sure the car is in the sun. Place a fan blowing in a window of the car to keep the air moving and speed dry time. If it isn’t sunny out, you can roll the windows up to about 2 inches down and turn the heater on high. If you have a small fan that oscillates, put it in the car wherever you can get it to stay safely and turn it on high. Do not leave it unattended for very long and keep checking the carpet and seats to see if their dry. If you have a garage where you can leave the windows down all night and a fan blowing, this would be the ideal thing to do.

During the drying stage, you may notice some dirt resurfacing. When being shown how to clean car upholstery that has had cola spills in it, you will see exactly what I am talking about. You can just take a dry towel and rub these areas as they dry and it will pick it up. There is no doubt this is a long tiring process when learning how to clean upholstery. There is a lot of bending and scrubbing involved. This is why a lot of people choose to take their cars to a local detail shop and have the interior steam cleaned. Although, if you want to save money and learn how to do it yourself, this is one way to do it and get great results.

How to Deal With Car Accidents

An accident when driving can occur at any moment. You may assume that because you are a fantastic driver you will not have an accident. Wrong. Even the best driver in the world can be hit by a rogue driver. Not everybody on the road has a licence to drive. Not everyone will be in a fit state to drive. And, worst of all, some people will deliberately cause an accident to claim injury compensation from YOUR insurance.

So what is the best way to deal with an accident?

1. Safety. Your first priority is to ensure you and your passengers are not hurt in any way. If so, immediately call the emergency services and give them an exact location. If possible, get help nearby from someone who may be medically trained. Get yourself to a place of safety as soon as possible. Do not wander around a live busy carriageway.

2. Witnesses. Get people who may have stopped to look to give you their recollection of what just happened. Then ask them for their names and telephone numbers. If you can, write down THEIR vehicle registration (if they were in one) as this can prove useful if they’ve given a wrong phone number by mistake.

3. Photographs. Take photographs of damage to your car. The other person’s car and any other property damaged. Even a picture of the location can be useful as it will help when going through the insurance company. Street locations signage indicating priorities and weather can be useful when insurers have to assess a claim. If you have in-car CCTV make sure it has locked the footage. Take pictures of any injuries (if appropriate) and… the really useful one… take a picture (I suggest subtly) of the other driver as scammers may fake details later on. Some people may give false names to make bogus claims. Some people will even add extra passengers in their car (on their insurance claim) to claim personal injuries for more people than were actually there.

4. Swap Insurance details. In most countries, as in the UK, it is a legal requirement to swap insurance details at an accident. You need to give your name, phone number or address or the details of your insurance company as well as your vehicle registration. Never admit any fault, even if you think it may be your fault. You are not in the correct state of mind to make these decisions.

5. Report the accident. In some countries, like in the UK, you should report any accident that involved injury or damage to another person’s property including damage to ‘street furniture’ such as streetlights, walls or signage. Not doing this within the specified time frame may render you liable to prosecution for separate offences. Check with local law enforcement agencies as soon as you can to protect yourself. If you suspect the other person may have been driving illegally (I.e drunk) call the Police immediately as once the person has left the scene it may be hard to prove they were guilty of such an offence. Also, this may assist you with your claim through the insurance company.

6. Check your vehicle. If possible move your vehicle to a place of safety and see if it can still be driven. DO NOT attempt to drive it if looks like it is un-roadworthy – get it towed.

7. Report the accident to your insurers as soon as possible. This is usually a part of the policy and failure to report it quickly may render it void.

8. If it was a very frightening accident and you feel scared to drive again afterwards seek help from a qualified diving instructor. That’s what they’re there for. You can quickly build up your confidence again.

5 Tips Help You Buy Car Sun Shades

1. Is there a standard size?

That’s a perfectly rational question, as windshields come in a variety of dimensions. A car sun shade won’t fit the windshield of an 18-wheeler. The dimensions for standard size are 24″ x 58″ and fits most compact to mid-size vehicles, while the dimensions for the large are 27″ x 67″ and are perfect for SUVs and RVs. Its best to start by measuring your car’s front windshield to determine the exact size you need.

2. Should I still buy them if I already have tinted windows?

Yes, yes and yes. Now we cannot stress this point enough. The fact is that even if your windows are tinted all the way around, if you tint your car’s entire front windshield you’re screwed – your car is pretty much useless. At best most front windshield tints only cover a tiny sliver at the top, leaving about 95% of your windshield and dashboard exposed to direct UV rays and merciless heat. Until manufacturers find a way to install transition lenses as front windshields, drivers will have to rely on the car sun shield is.

No matter how much your other car windows are tinted, the majority of heat and damage will come through at the front, while your backseat passengers get hit with a blast of heat the moment they open the car door. Eventually you will have to replace your car’s entire dashboard when it becomes cracked along with any electronics and gadgets in your vehicle that got fried. Online retailers make it affordable and easy to own car sun shields, so you can pay almost nothing for a car accessory that will protect your largest investment apart from your home.

3. Do they really work?

Yes, feel free to try them sometime.

4. I have a car sun shade with one side reflective and the other side matte white. Which side of my car sun shade is supposed to face out?

Most shiny surfaces reflect both light and heat, while matte surfaces absorb light and heat. Initially the answer might not seem so obvious but it’s the reflective or shiny side of your sun shield. Note to the rookie, please make a point of removing your sun shade before driving off into the sunset.

5. Which design is best?

Now this one is perhaps the easiest question of all. All of them, from charming Eyes Sun Shades that make your car come to life, to Zebra Stripes that bring out your wild side. With a cornucopia of innovative car sun shades out there you can’t go wrong.

4 Categories of Ecommerce

Ecommerce or electronic commerce is transactions or other terms of sale that are performed electronically. This involves purchasing, selling, and exchange of goods or services for the exchange of money using computer networks such as the Internet. Opposing to the popular belief, ecommerce does not only exist on the web. In fact, ecommerce already existed and do well in business-to-business transaction since the 70s via EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) through VANs (Value-Added Networks). Ecommerce can be further broken into four main categories B2B, B2C, C2B, and C2C.

• B2B (Business-to-Business)

B2B definitely deals with companies who are doing business with each other. An example of this is manufacturers who are selling their product to distributors, and the wholesalers are selling it to retailers. Thus, the pricing can be based on the number of orders and is frequently up for grabs.

• B2C (Business-to-Consumer)

Business-to-consumer typically involves selling products and services to the general public or consumers through the use of catalogs utilizing shopping cart software. B2B can easily earn a lot of money; on the other hand, B2C is what really in mind in an average customer when it comes to the ecommerce as whole. With the help of ecommerce, you can easily purchase many things at time without having human interaction. An example of these if you are having hard time finding a book, when you need to purchase a customized, high-end computer system, or finding a first class, all-inclusive trip to a tropical paradise island. Thus, ecommerce can help you purchase the products all at the same time.

• C2B (Consumer-to-Business)

An example of C2B is when a consumer posts his projects or assignments in the Internet and web site. The consumer sets a budget online where within hours many companies reviews the requirements needed by the consumer and then bid on the project. It empowers the customers around the globe by providing the meeting ground and platform for that certain transaction.

• C2C (Consumer-to-Consumer)

A very good example for C2C is the eBay. It is where consumers sell their products to other consumers through bidding. Thus, the one who bids the highest can buy the product. Another example is the sites offering free classified ads, auctions, and forums where consumers can buy and sell products to other consumers. They use PayPal as a tool for online payment system where they can send and receive money with ease through online.

There is another form of ecommerce which is the B2E or Business-to-Employee ecommerce. Here, companies are using internal networks to offer their employees products and services online. It may not be necessarily online on the Web.

The other forms of ecommerce are the G2G (Government-to-Government), G2E (Government-to-Employee), G2B (Government-to-Business), B2G (Business-to Government), G2C (Government-to-Citizen), C2G (Citizen-to-Government). These transactions involves mainly with the government, from procurement to filing taxes to business registration to renewing license. There are still plenty of other categories that exist but then they tend to be superfluous.

Hunter Ceiling Fans Advice

Hunter ceiling fans are without doubt the best you can buy, here we have put together all the information you might need to know about ceiling fans before purchasing, please bear in mind that there are other ceiling fan manufacturers out there who copy Hunter ceiling fan designs but they are nowhere near as good, the materials they use are not as high quality and they cannot copy hunter ceiling fans patents such as whisper-wind and wobble-free technology, no-one else can match the Hunter lifetime warranty on the motor either, so while many ceiling fans may look “just like a Hunter,” remember all ceiling fans are not created equal…

Most Hunter ceiling fans have a reverse option which is especially important to reduce heating bills in the winter, warm air can be directed down to where it is needed by spinning the ceiling fan clockwise.

Some points to consider when buying a ceiling fan:

– How much air is actually being circulated?

– How efficiently will the fan move air?

– How quiet or noisy is the fan?

– Will the fan wobble?

– How long will the fan last?

– How durable is the finish?

– Will the manufacturer stand behind the warranty?

Many Fans Move Very Little Air

A ceiling fan that looks nice but moves little air is a comfort to no one. One of the keys to proper air movement is blade pitch. The greater the pitch-the angle of the blade-the greater the air movement providing the blade pitch has been properly harmonized with the motor. Unlike Hunter some manufacturers skimp on materials and don’t use large enough or powerful enough motors to support proper blade pitch. So they compromise on blade pitch, sacrificing proper air movement to reduce the stress on undersized or under-powered motors. Many fans also use extra thin blades to reduce cost. The reduced blade surface area means reduced air movement.

Why Many Fans Are Less Efficient

The amount of energy a fan consumes plus the volume of air the fan moves determines the fan’s overall efficiency. Small, low wattage motors may use little energy, but they also move very little air, resulting in very inefficient fans, Hunter fans are built to shift a lot of air.

Why Many Fans Are Noisy

An electrical humming created when a ceiling fan is running is usually the result of poor engineering design and a lack of precision manufacturing. Some manufacturers use generic, inexpensive ball bearings to reduce cost, even though these are a common source of operating noise. A lack of proper dampening between metal parts can also create and intensify noise, as can the use of extra thin sheet metal motor and mounting system parts. Hunter fans only use the best materials available.

Why Many Fans Wobble

Many factors can produce fan wobble. Substandard blade materials and improper blade sealing can produce blades that absorb moisture and warp-a prime source of wobble. Blades that are not matched in carefully weighed and balanced sets can also wobble. Inconsistent blade mounting brackets can create varying degrees of pitch (blade angle), throwing a fan into an unbalanced wobble. And poorly manufactured motors have rotors that can easily get out of balance, generating wobble from the very heart of the fan. Inexpensive mounting systems with pin fasteners can also contribute to wobble. Hunter fans have a patented wobble free canopy which means Hunter fans are always straight.

Common Reasons Substandard Fans Break Down Prematurely

Motor size and blade pitch are not specified and matched correctly. Improperly installed on/off pull chains can become faulty and be pulled out of the housing. Inadequate quality, testing, manufacturing and inspection procedures send poor quality fans to market. Defective motor windings can lead to electrical shorts in the motor. Low quality fan bearings may be “shielded” on one side only, allowing dust to enter and cause premature failure. Inexpensive materials, poor engineering, and substandard manufacturing processes are used to create “bargain” fans.

Why Brass Finishes Are Not Alike

In the beginning all brass finishes look great. Then tarnish and dark spots begin to appear. You may even notice the brass on the fan is a different colour than the light kit you just added!

Quality brass and other metallic finishes include a series of grinding and buffing steps between multiple plating processes. To help determine the quality of a plated finish, look at the surface closely for scratches or unevenness of finish. Does the surface spot easily? If so, avoid the fan. Can you feel a smooth protective coating? That’s a sign of the kind of quality you’ll find in the famous Hunter Bright Brass Finish.

What is the minimum height I need in my room to put up a fan?

Safety standards state that the min height from the floor to …

Compositions and Uses For Lacquers

Almost all of the large paint and varnish manufacturers in the United States are now making lacquers, which in some cases are being unwisely advertised as suitable for nearly all purposes. In the hands of a skilled finisher they produce satisfactory effects, but when a novice attempts to spread them with a brush over newly varnished surfaces, there is sure to be trouble because the solvents in the lacquer are similar to those contained in some of the paint and varnish removers and the newly applied coating reacts with the old, resulting in a spoiled finish.

If a varnished or enameled surface is old, hard, and well preserved, a lacquer finish may adhere satisfactorily soon after it is applied. However, checking is apt to occur later on. Lacquer finishes have certain limitations and cannot be used over other finishes indiscriminately with assurance of success. Lacquer finishes have grown in popularity on wood frames, fireplace designs, and designer window toppers and, when used properly by one who understands them and their limitations, they are attractive and durable and possess many good qualities.

Lacquer enamels, which are pigmented lacquers, are successful and popular finishes for automobiles. Lacquers of various kinds are used extensively on metalwork, particularly building-hardware, electric-light fixtures, metal spinning and stamping objects, and often for toys, artwork, and even jewelry. They are also used satisfactorily on high grade furniture. Pigmented lacquers are used on electric light fixtures, novelties, and machinery, and also almost universally on the highest priced automobiles.

Composition of Nitrocellulose Lacquers

Clear or transparent lacquers contain five types of ingredients:

o nitrocellulose or pyroxylin

o varnish resins

o solvents

o platsicizers

o dilutents or thinners

Pigmented lacquers (for use on everything from fireplace accessories and wood frames to frieze boards) are often called lacquer enamels. These enamels contain one extra ingredient. They must give obscuration or hiding power and to give this opacity various kinds of pigments and coloring matter are added to the lacquer. Pigments and coloring-matter may therefore be considered as the sixth type of ingredient found in lacquers.

Nitrocellulose, Soluble Cotton, or Pyroxylin

The distinctive ingredient in a modern lacquer, that makes it quite different in behavior from other varnishlike materials, is given various names, such as nitrocellulose, cellulose nitrate, soluble cotton, and pyroxylin. The words nitrocellulose and nitrocotton mean that the substance is made of cellulose or cotton that has been nitrated. Cotton is one of the purest forms of cellulose fibers and is the chief source of raw material from which nitrocellulose is manufactured.

Long-fibered cotton which is valuable for making cotton-cloth is usually too expensive for nitrating; therefore, the short-fibered material, called “cotton linters,” is generally used. In the factories the cotton gin removes the long fibered cotton from the linters, hull fibers, dirt, and other impurities. The linters are separated from the waste material by boiling, chemical treatment, bleaching, washing, and drying and are then nitrated through treatment with a mixture of nitric and sulphuric acids.

The particular function of the sulphuric acid is to remove the moisture from the cotton fibers during the nitrating process. The amount of nitrogen given to the cotton is very carefully controlled, and depends upon the use for which the nitrocellulose is intended. The nitrogen content of nitrocellulose used in lacquer varies from 11.5 to 12.4 percent, with a viscosity of a half-second up to about 80 seconds. Nitrocellulose that has between 12.5 to 13.5 percent of nitrogen is called gun-cotton and is used in the manufacture of smokeless powder and various explosives.

Nitrocellulose for use in making lacquer for fireplace accessories, frieze boards, and wood corner blocks is made wet with denatured alcohol, in order to remove traces of water, and then dried out to a 30 per cent alcohol content mixture, which is not explosive though it is flammable. The gun cotton type of nitrocellulose has having between 12.5 to 13.5 percent of nitrogen by weight is very explosive when dry and is soluble only in acetone, while the nitrocelluloses which contain a lower amount of nitrogen are easily soluble in a mixture of anhydrous ethyl alcohol, anhydrous ethyl acetate and other well-known solvents.

The viscosity of the early types of nitrocellulose used in making lacquers for metal was relatively high and the amount of solvents and thinners were great in proportion. The result was a very thin film when the mixture was applied. The lacquers of the present day usually contain a nitrocellulose of rather low viscosity and certain resins which, when combined, produce a film that is much like a varnish in body or solid matter.

o You are getting married and now will have two cars. Think about cancelling your individual car insurance policies and getting a joint one for both cars. Similarly if your family is growing and you have many cars used by adults as well as kids, ask auto insurance companies about group insurance schemes that will cover all the cars and drivers in your home. Most companies offer great discounted rates for combining car insurance policies.

o You are retired and now a senior citizen. Car insurance companies offer discounts to those who are 55 and above. There are a great many discounts available for a car that has a good insurance claim record, a car that is not driven every day, and a car that is single driver driven and well maintained.

o You are eligible for coverage through your new job. Many large companies have facilities like auto insurance schemes at premium rates lower than the market. If you are working in such a firm then you must consider cancelling your old policy and taking a new one with the car insurance company chosen by your workplace.

o When the rates being paid by you are high and your car insurance company shows no inclination to offer you a competitive rate. If you are paying too much for car insurance its time you changed your car insurance company to one that is offering you great facilities and rates.

Whatever the reason to change your car insurance company, the World Wide Web has sites where you can compare offers as well as quotes. Sites like LowerMyBills.com give quote comparisons in a click. So, read all you can about car insurance and the companies and determine which car insurance company offer will suit you best.

Constitutional Development in Sierra Leone – The Blackhall Experience

The Colony of Sierra Leone

Henry Smeathman, the botanist, recommended Sierra Leone as the most advantageous place for the establishment of a settlement.1 Established as a Crown Colony in 1808, the Sierra Leone peninsula and the areas directly to the south of it were governed by a Governor-in-Council who combined both Executive and Legislative authority. This system prevailed until 1863 when the Executive and Legislative functions were divided between an Executive Council and a Legislative Council. Though the new councils marked a step away from the earlier form of colonial autocracy, it is argued that they were not intended as a move towards self-government.2 The Colony of Sierra Leone then was inspired by the humanitarian opposition to the institution of slavery and nurtured by the British determination to end the Slave Trade. By the middle of the eighteen century, the system of slavery was not too popular with the English. On several occasions, public attention was drawn to the question as to whether a slave should become free after arriving on English soil. The philanthropist Granville Sharp struck an effective blow in 1772 when “a test case was provided in the case of a slave named James Somerset, who had been brought to England from Jamaica by his master and had subsequently run away from him”3. The principles laid by Lord Chief Justice Mansfield of the English High Court in the case Somerset v. Stewart implied that any slave setting foot in England should be deemed a freeman. He noted that “the state of slavery… is incapable of being introduced on any reasons…I cannot say this is allowed or approved by the law of England and therefore the black man must be discharged”.4 This famous Mansfield Decision stimulated the Christian philanthropy of men like Sharp and Wilberforce.

The consequence of this judgement was the liberation of hundreds of slaves living in England. During the American War of Independence (1776-1983), the British encouraged slaves in America to desert their masters to join the British army in return for freedom and land. After the War – which Britain lost- some of these slaves went to Nova Scotia (Canada) and some to London. In London, these former slaves were beset with many problems. Their freedom definitely did not mean equality with British subjects. Often destitute, most of these freed slaves wandered about the streets of England distressing the kindhearted and men of property. They posed an awkward social problem. The victor and hero of the Somerset case, Granville Sharp, maintained a growing number of these slaves collectively referred to as the Black Poor. It did not take long for Granville Sharp to realize that the problem was more than private charity would cope with. As a remedial agency, a considerable number of philanthropists formed a Committee for relieving the Black Poor in 1986 known as the Committee of the Black Poor. This Committee was chaired by Jonas Hanway. It was during this period of uncertainty that a certain individual Dr. Henry Smeathman, alias flycatcher, who had lived for about three years in the vicinity of Sierra Leone strongly proposed the area as a suitable settlement. In 1785, this botanist certified Sierra Leone unhealthy for the establishment of a concrete settlement. However, in February 1786, he declared the area suitable for human habitation, crop production and cattle rearing. His vision for the settlement was principally economic and commercial. Granville Sharp, the leading abolitionist, Jonas Hanway, John and Thomas Clarkson (and subsequently Thomas Fowell Buxton) resorted to a scheme of colonialization. Inadequate finances prevented them from acting along. They appealed to the British government for assistance which the latter willingly gave since it wanted to end the problems posed by the Black Poor.

The Colony of Sierra Leone (which started on 11th May, 1787), began, not as a Colony of Britain, but rather, as a fully independent colony with an African governor, Richard Weaver. Needless to state, this was the dawn or advent of a brand new experiment in the relationship between the Africans and the Europeans. This experiment was a reverse drive of the so-called African Diaspora for “instead of the old ‘middle passage’ traffic when negroes were taken from Africa and sold into slavery in the markets of Europe and the New World, the new ‘middle passage’ traffic of these years consisted in Negroes making the return journey from Europe and the New World, not for purposes of slavery, but that they might have the opportunity of living their lives as freemen on their own native continent”.5 This settlement was no doubt a tiny one but had nearly all the essentials of a state. This Governor and the Common Council might have been dubbed President and Parliament respectively. The settlement was administered under the old English system of frankpledge whereby the colony was …

16 Green Ways to Recycle Old Memory Foam Mattress Toppers

Most memory foam mattress toppers have a lifespan of only 5 years. After that the foam loses the ability to regain shape and gradually start to sag. A lot of people change mattress topper after this period, that means there is quite a bit of waste out there. Instead of increasing your carbon foot prints what can you do something more eco-friendly? The most opted option is to recycle the foam as it can be 100% recycled. Some manufactures also take used toppers, so that’s another way.

But instead of just throwing them away I have some unique ideas that will convert your old memory foam mattress topper into something completely new and eco-friendly.

1. Stuffing for toys

Why not? They make an excellent stuffing material for toys. Cut them into small pieces and use them to stuff toys for your kids. Also you can make toys out of them and even sell on eBay or Etsy!

2. Bean bags

A bean bag can be made more comfortable by filling half of it with pieces of memory foam. Or you can sew a new bag and fill it completely with foam pieces, this will give quite a decoration for your living room.

3. Donate

Donate them to the homeless or shelter homes. Many of them do not have enough beds to accommodate homeless people, donating to them would be a good thing you do for the society.

4. Car seat pads

You can cut the foam and use it as padding for car seats. They can also be wrapped in fabric or leather and used as head support.

5. Wheel chair pads

Resize and give them to a person on wheel chair. They can be used as padding and help the person sit more comfortably.

6. Halloween costume

Your old memory foam topper can come handy during Halloween. A lot of costumes require bulges and this is an excellent choice for that.

7. Cushions for hardwood chairs

Not comfortable sitting on your hardwood chair? Make some cushions out of your ‘to be disposed’ topper.

8. Stuffing for pillows

They can be used to make pillows for your kids and pets. Cut them into small pieces and stuff them inside the pillow.

9. Dishwashing sponges

We use hundreds of sponges a year. Why not cut your topper into square pieces and use them as dishwashing sponges. That is a lot better than just throwing them away.

10. Sell on Craigslist

OK, this is not a DIY project. But definitely I have seen people selling and buying old mattress toppers on Craigslist, may be for their own DIY projects.

11. Floor cushions

Cut them into large square pieces and cover them with decorative fabrics. They will make great floor cushions.

12. Pet bed

I wonder why people often forget this. This is an excellent idea to reuse your old topper. Cut it and make a bed for your lovely pet. Cover it with a waterproof cover, the foam doesn’t go well with pee.

13. Headboard

It is an excellent material to be used as padding for a headboard. If you were longing for a headboard for your bed then this is the right time to get one.

14. Use as an outdoor day bed

Use it on a day bed in your garden or patio.

15. Packing, moving material

They can be used to keep things intact while packing and moving. Vacuum storage bags are a good way to keep them stored till needed.

16. Gardening knee cushion

Gardening is an excellent hobby but all that sowing and weeding can be a little tough on your knees. Your old topper will be an excellent choice to make a home-made knee cushion.

What To Do Immediatley After a Car Accident

Did you know that there are over six million car accidents in the United States every year? Fortunately, in most cases, car accidents only result in damage in to property but, in one in three cases, auto accidents also result in personal injury.

Even if you have never had an accident before or you do not drive your car very often, there is always the possibility that you could be involved in an accident through no fault of your own. If you are aware of the steps you should take after an auto accident, you will be better prepared to protect yourself and your passengers from injury and you will be aware of what you need to do protect yourself against unfair claims.

Here are the steps you should take if you are unfortunate enough to be involved in a road accident:

Stop your vehicle

Whenever you are involved in a car accident, however minor, you should always stop. Never leave the scene of an accident without stopping.

Make the Scene Safe

One of the first things you will need to do is make sure that no one has been injured and the scene of the accident is as safe as possible. To avoid the danger of a further collision, place flares or warning lights around the stationary vehicles, and put your hazard warning lights on. If you are on a busy highway, stand well away from fast-moving oncoming traffic.

Call the emergency services

It is advisable to notify the police of an accident, even if there are no serious injuries. If there are any injuries or there is a fire, then the ambulance and fire services should be identified as well. It's a good idea to notify the police, even if it is a minor accident, because you will need a police report to file with your insurance claim. If possible, the vehicles should not be moved before the police arrive.

Make a complete record of the accident

When the police arrive it is important that give them an accurate record of what has happened. If you are unsure of any of the details, be honest about it, do not try to speculate or make assumptions. If you are asked if you are injured, it is better to say that you are unsure, rather than say no, because some injuries from car accidents only manifest themselves later on. If there are any third-party witnesses to the accident, you should ask them to wait for the police to arrive, so that they can give a statement.

Take photographs

If there is damage to your vehicle, then take photographs of that damage. You should also take photographs of any damage to other vehicles as well. If you have any injuries that are visible, take photographs of that too. Sadly, there are people who will claim that far more damage was done to their vehicle than actually was. A photograph will enable you to dispute a spurious claim against your insurance. While making a record of the accident is important, you should not, of course, impede the work of the emergency services and the police while you are doing it.

Exchange details with the other party

If the police attend the scene of a car accident, they will take all the details of those involved in the accident and of any witnesses. If the police do not attend, you should obtain the names and addresses of all those involved, including passenger and witnesses. You should also exchange insurance details with the drivers of the other vehicles involved. If the police are in attendance, the police should provide you with a police report number. With that you will be able to obtain a copy of the police report into the accident. If the accident occurred on a state highway, you are legally required to report the incident to the police.

Get a medical check up

Even if you do not think that you have been injured, it is advisable to get a medical check-up as soon as possible after a car accident. Injuries caused by car accidents often do not become noticeable until several days later. Even low-speed impacts can cause damage and, if you felt dazed by the accident, you may have suffered a mild concussion.

Keep all the paperwork

Keep all the paperwork you have relating to the accident in a file. This should include all correspondence, your insurance claim number, details of the claim adjuster dealing with the claim and the names and telephone numbers of all those involved in the case. You should also keep all the receipts for any expenses that you incur as a result of the accident, including car repairs, medical costs and the cost of a rental car if one was needed.

Rethinking The Oil Change Business Venture

Annual quick lube survey, is it still viable?

I wish to comment on the Fast Lube Business and the annual survey done by Auto Laundry News, one of the few Industry Magazines for the car wash industry. In this 2001 survey, we see an increase on the number of locations out there. Yet the leader of the Industry is by far Jiffy Lube. We see variations on theme, but we can safely say that Jiffy Lube has adapted best to the American public and their desires when it comes to oil changes.

This survey showed the average customer would drive 5.7 miles to get an oil change. If 50% of the customers would drive 5.7 miles and 80% of the customers usually come from a three-mile radius to get a car wash, I see additional synergy. These car washes with oil lube centers are getting a further reach than the industry average. This is great news for those carwashes adding oil lube bays, but also it takes up space and if not marketed correctly it will not work. The survey was quick to show that oil change facilities do best in middle class areas, not high-end areas. They do poorly in low-income areas. This all makes sense. Free standing car washes were the most likely to have oil lube facilities on there properties. Interesting too is that minimum wage was not prevailing, normally the companies pay $8.00-10.00 per hour. Makes realistic sense and I believe good help starts in this country at $10.00 per hour in most metros and $8.00 hour in rural.

Only 23% of the fast lubes had a website. Only half had internet access in the locations. Average employees were 5 full time and 3 part timers. Luckily for the image of this industry 74% had specific uniforms. The average shop had 3 bays, not enough to do the volume if adequate blitz marketing and community based marketing were taking place. Average revenue was $32.00 per car. That is an awful lot of upselling since the average advertised price that I have noticed is around $19.99. Less than 30% were open on Sundays? Bad mistake since there is no time to change oil and wait in line for most Americans. Average monthly gross was $2,400.00 per month per bay?

This is shit, this is not even a viable business, these people are wasting their time. Think about it, you have cost of oil and filter too and labor? Forget that news. I question the viability of the entire oil change industry. The largest Jiffy Lube franchisee in the country with 180 units was de-listed from NASDAQ and so was another prominent auto care and lube company recently. I like the Kwik-Lube Company and feel they are doing it right, but also question the ROI of such an endeavor seeing these results and the cost to build the building and time to build it. One good thing that the oil lube bays have going for them is the up-sell, but as the consumer dollar gets tighter and the credit card debt gets higher and the fall out rates increase where will this extra impulse revenue and up-sell cash be coming form?

The Industry is still expanding and new entrants to the market place are hurting existing units and I question the saturation point, not on need, but on desire. No one wants to spend money on oil changes, they need to. People buy what they want, satellite TV and beer. Not what they need, so I see a frequency problem issue brewing and people waiting 5-6-7 thousand miles between changes. So I believe that if an oil lube bay is not already attached to another reason to frequent the facility it will soon be in desire straits. The survey also showed that 93% OF THE OIL LUBE BAYS USED ADVERTISING TO GET THEIR CUSTOEMRS? WHY? We do not advertise, word of mouth and happy customers advertise for us. There you go again more cost.

Also 60% of the surveyed said that competition was discounting. HMMM? You have labor costs that are high, frequency is down, new car technology on the horizon, cost of oil going to the big guys and throw in a price war? I see problem as the non-savvy operators leave facilities for sale and exit the market place. By eliminating the facility and going mobile with the existing customer base of let’s say a mobile truck repair business which can co-band and fleet services available you could beat these other companies since they running redline over saturations of mailer coupons and phone book ads and no web sites. Many companies are not watching the changing demographics at their locations and lease or property costs and unable to sell or borrow more due to their lousy …

Why Mobile Application Development Service Is Important Today

New devices are being launched every now and then, thanks to ever-growing technology. The evolution of new devices certainly has made the life of an individual a lot easier and convenient, but it has brought many challenges for businesses. Today businesses are not only trying to catch up with the online world but also with the device industry.

In the era of smartphones, just having an up and running website is not enough. According to a recent study, it has shown that more than 45% of Google search results are originating from smartphones. The number is impressive and so is the growth of mobile industry. The need of being available on every internet enabled device has given birth to mobile application development, which signifies the core development of an app specifically for the smartphones and mobile devices.

Does your business need an app?

As a matter of fact, people turn to their mobile phones, smartphones, tablets, and iPhones when they have to look for information on the internet. Today where there is an app for almost everything from shopping to booking to gaming to money transfer, your business cannot afford to miss out on an opportunity to target the half of your audience, which is available on smartphones. Mobile apps are no longer considered to be a luxury, it has become the need of the hour. But this does not mean that every business needs to have a presence on mobile phones.

Let’s picture it this way, if you run a retail business, launching a mobile app does offer a lot of benefits. The app would allow your users to have a glance at your catalog on the internet and make a purchase immediately via the same device. However, if you run a consultancy business, you probably would want to get involved into collaboration tools rather than an app which is available for everyone.

What is the purpose of your mobile app?

It is important for a business to understand the purpose of the app before even planning to launch it. You cannot hire a mobile application development company to get an app developed without knowing the purpose of it. To get the whole picture of launching an app clear, you need a strong mobile strategy. In order to develop a useful app, a mobile strategy is essential so that a business can decide whether to build a mobile-friendly website or a mobile app.

Wondering why not have both? Well, bigger businesses often have both a mobile-friendly website and a mobile application. However, not every website needs both the platform to communicate with its audience. Considering the fact that a mobile website and a mobile application are created for a different type of audience. As an instance, a mobile-friendly site allows every web user to access your site from almost any device, which is well suited for almost any kind of business. On the other hand, a mobile application is catered to a business that provides services and goods to a type of audience, which makes it suitable for retail business.

Conclusion:

Smartphones and tablets have certainly replaced desktops and laptops. This replacement has not only affected people across the world but also businesses who are trying their best to reach the masses and serve the best possible solutions to them. Thus, whether you are running a retail business or a consultancy firm, it is always a bright idea to build a fully functional mobile app to target the right audience and be available for them across every possible device.
